My clutch has finally died :(

    Hi Guys

Sad news my clutch has finally died at 38,000 miles. Will be taking it up to the mechanic for a new clutch on monday. Any recommendations? Should I stick with the Audi V8 clutch? Upgrade to the V10 clutch? Or third party like a lot of the lambo owners do?

I'd upgrade to the V10 clutch. It's a direct bolt in replacement.

Will it be the same price? What parts would need to change? What advantages will the V10 clutch give me? Will it wear as long?

You can read all about it here: V10 clutch in V8 drivetrain, and I've added this link to the FAQ for future reference.

This may be a stupid question, but is the car still drivable with a dead clutch?

(EDIT: I had the wrong thread, fixed the link to point to the correct one! )
Do you still have your V8 clutch parts? Want to sell? :P

Yes I do, but I like to hang on to all that stuff because it might come in useful one day. When I finally clear things out it is going to be one heck of a garage sale!
Anyway, paying shipping and duty from Cali to UK on what is essentially a big chunk of cast iron seems kind of silly, don't you think?

Might be able to avoid the duty part if it's marked correctly as used and valued at $40. I'd go for a new V10 clutch though.

I would also not put in a clutch that's went through considerable mileage if I were you, even if it looks fine.

Is the GT part number different?

Since we can visually inspect the clutch disc through the ports in the bell housing, it would be great to know what a worn-out clutch looks like!
Mark, when your shop removes the old clutch would you please take a photograph of the edge of the clutch discs? An actual measurement of the remaining thickness, if possible, would be great!

Here is a picture I've posted previously of the view of my clutch through one of the ports. You can see one of the clutch disks; the two black stripes are the clutch lining which wears out:
