Engine compartment lid stuck?

My engine compartment lid opener is a manual lever by the kick plate of the driver side footwell. The lever will pop open the engine lid so there's a gap to reach fingers through but it won't open. Gets stuck with only about a 2inch opening. At first I thought maybe there was a lever under the lid that you have to reach in to release like the boot lid trunk or like most car hoods. But I don't recall there being a lever like that for the engine lid. Is there? So either the latch is missing or I can't find it or something else is causing it to be stuck.

I have tried with both car on or off as I've read this matters but only with later models like '10 that use electronic release button. But I have a manual release so this shouldn't matter.

Am I just not finding the lever under the engine lid is there not a lever there and it's just broken?

Have you opened the engine compartment lid before? I have the electronic release button but after popping the lid you have to pull up on it with some deliberate force. I'm not sure if yours is stuck (still latched to something) or if you're just not pulling up hard enough.

No ive pulled on it with some force and its apparent that with about an inch of lift it gets stuck on something. Very similar in feel to the front trunk lid if you try to lift without releasing the latch under the hood. Do you have a latch under your engine lid to release or just the electronic button in the cabin?

I just have the button (and a manual release) with no latch under the lid.

My 09 (same year as yours) has a release button behind the driver's seat, as well as the manual release cord below that.

Don't try to force it open! This sounds like a trip to the dealer is in order.
