First off, Hi.
I will introduce myself. I own a small auto repair shop in Cincinnati Ohio and have had the ability to own some pretty awesome cars.
My current stable is a 2011 Corvette ZR1, 2011 Corvette Z06 ( That is being traded in a few weeks ), a 2012 Corvette Grand Sport Convertible ( will be here in a few weeks ), my wife has a 2011 Porsche Cayenne S, and a 2010 Beetle... Aside from our daily cars 2007 Escalade for her, and 2011 Duramax Denali for me.
I just bought a 2008 Audi R8. 4.2 and a manual transmission. The car was well taken care of, and owned by a classy older man. It currently has 4300 miles on her. I love the looks of the car, and it is a nice car to ride and drive in.
My question is this. The factory warranty is up in June of 2012. I have the opportunity to certify it now, for about 6,000. It would be an Audi Certified vehicle and carry a full warranty for an additional two years, or 100k miles. The years would come way before the miles. I either do it now, or dont do it at all.
My history is that I either trade out of a car every few months, or if I keep it, I tend to modify the cars. ( I keep looking at heffner performance ) However, I know very little about this car, and from what I have read, they can be quite costly to repair.
There is a chance that I may not even have the car still in June. There is a chance that I will have modified it by then. There is a chance that I will just keep it stock and modify the apperance etc... I figure, even if I boosted the car, say the AC system went out, that would still be covered under the warranty as it would have no affect from modification. Or a body control module, etc...
So, new friends at R8Talk, what would you do...
That shows my ZR1 ( yellow ) my Carbon ( under cover ), The bug and the Cayenne S. The black Centennial is sold already and where the R8 is currently sitting.
Mike
