    Rtronic updates since launch

I had one of the the first rtronic equipped V8 R8. I really liked the gearbox, the only issue being a little clunkiness between 1st and 2nd, subsequently I have had Gallardo E-gear, Aston V8 Vantage Sportshift, and LP56o E-gear. Each if these has been incrementally better than my previous R8 rtronic, with the LP560 being nigh on perfect.

I am considering a V10 spyder and am interested to find out whether the software for the rtronic has improved the 1st to 2nd issue over the last few years. Theoretically it should have improved as I am sure these gearboxes are all very similar - but theory and practice are not the same...any comments from owners?

Even if you had kept your old R8, you could have had the R-tronic system updated with several factory-released software updates. I'm sure the newest R8s with R-tronic will be an improvement over what you experienced with your previous R8.

There's still a gap between first/second, but by all accounts, the system has improved over time. There also seems to be some opinion the RT is better suited to the V10 than the V8. I've been very happy with my 2011, although it has become second nature to fire the engine and hit the sport button. Unless you're just running down the driveway to get the mail, you'll want the faster shifts to match the nature of the car.

Have to say the R Tronic is fantastic on the V10 in comparison with the V8.
    I've noticed a vast improvement.

Thanks for the positive replies. I will need to try to organise a test drive of an Rtronic, Manual is not a problem but seem to be less Rtronic around in the UK.

Resident forum member's would know my dislike for the R-tronic after trying a few over the past 3 years.

However my wife and myself were privileged to get a invite from my Audi dealer recently and to drive on the circuit as part of the main event parade lap at the Gold Coast V8 Supercars with a gaggle of R8 Spyder owners.

My dealer provided a 2012 R8 Spyder V10 R-Tronic loaner and I must say that spending the day with the car,I was impressed how much nicer the R-Tronic has improved since I last drove one 12 months ago.

Nice changes, crisp and not too much lift off required to avoid the duck nod with the head.

Big Statement but..I could own one.

I've had a couple of software updates installed on my 2009 r tronic and the overall performance has improved considerably. I also think that the key to smooth shifts is always driving with sport mode enabled.

Last week I had the latest R Tronic update done on my car. It had just rained, but...when I shifted to second gear all four wheels chirped. I did not have it in sport mode. It is now shifting similar or faster than sport mode.

I have the R-tronic revision 24R4. What you have is it newer than that?

If newer, how is the shift quality?

    Thanks in advance.

How can you find out the software revision? Is there a way without using Audi diagnostic kit?
