    Puzzling conversation with Audi's service advisor.....

    I recently brought my R8 V10 to the dealership for some very minor issues (Not related to drivetrain). I was informed that before any work could be preformed, the dealership needed authorization from Audi of North Americia because the car is still part of a " Launch Program". When queried and asked about the "Launch Program" The service provider said it was because it's a V10 and that the car "was Audi's" Has anyone ever heard of this???? If please explain.

    Was your car purchased used? If so, perhaps it was an Audi corporate car?

    No, I was told that before any service can be performed at the dealership that Audi of North America wants to be notified. The issues is cosmetic. The rear engine hatch is rubbing causing a slight blemishing of the carbon fiber. Sorry no pictures. DrDavid121.

    My dealership told me the same thing. No work can be done on any r8 until Audi is notified first. I was told they simply want to know everything that is done to any r8 regardless of how simple or complex it may be.

    According to my dealer, AOA or Audi of America keeps track of all work done on R8s that is not normal maintenance. The dealer must get approval to replace parts and AOA wants the defective parts back.

    Many people have the CF engine compartment rub. Every car I have looked at had it after at least one year. It is on the passenger side of the engine compartment near the strut. My dealer put a piece of felt on the lid and it went away.

    mngolfer: That's exactly the spot- what a coincidence, or maybe not. Thanks for your input. Was the felt placed on the hatch or the carbon fiber itself?

    Same spot here.

    I forget what the time is that must pass before they don't have to call AoA for authorization on the R8, but after a period, they are not required to. My '09 doesn't require it anymore.

    I think I remember AOA telling me that after 12 months/12000miles the dealer no longer has to get pre authorized.

    I had the same thing and was faced with two options.

    1. Polish the area to shine again, only to have it continue happening
    2. Velvet on either the lid or that area, I didn't have any so I took stuck the soft side of a velcro strip there, done deal. Black on black, hard to see, no cosmetic impact.

    Stranger than truth- The AOA is not fixing the blemish parts ( engine vent on passenger side and carbon fiber insert. They are choosing to place the items with new parts. Santa Claus is real! DrDavid121
