Battery charger?

I also have the Porsche charger and just bought a female cigarette adapter with clamps that goes on the Porsche charger and hooked it up to the battery.
I'm under the assumption that the charger gives the needed amount of charge, but maybe someone can comment as to whether a specific charge is needed...

I just had my dealer install a charger on the battery. All I have to do in the winter is slide open the battery cover and hook an extension cord to the the std 3 prong outlet in there. I don't close the lit all the way because I don't want to crease the weather strip.

Is it recommended to have the car covered while having the car charger plugged in? Please advise
