Had my oil changed today and according to the dipstick the dealer put in too much oil. Thinking about taking it back to have them drain a quart.

Had my oil changed today and according to the dipstick the dealer put in too much oil. Thinking about taking it back to have them drain a quart.
2011 Audi R8 5.2 FSI
2010 Dodge Viper ACR - sold
2010 Corvette ZR1 - sold
I think it only warns on low oil... Can anyone confirm?

I thought it was just instrument cluster warning lights rather than errors displayed on the mmi itself in the r8 (unlike other audi's that have better integration).
the manual has only 3 warnings for oil:
"engine oil pressure" lamp - this only talks about if it is too low, but maybe this would come on if the pressure was too high too?
"engine oil level" lamp = add 1 litre
"oil level sensor defective" lamp

My 2009 warns about low oil level on the DIS (little screen between Tach and Speedo), not on the MMI (sic, actually RNS-E) screen in the center console.
I still think there is not any warning for overfilling the oil tank.

I shouldn't just reach for the manual - of course you're right about the DIS, I've seen enough messages there before so not sure why I forgot about that.
Especially as it's a pet hate of mine that there isn't better integration between the DIS and the "big screen"/main control interface like in other audi's.

Thanks, I'll taking the car back first thing tomorrow to have them drain it. They must not have even looked at the dipstick, it easily shows a level that is past the "do not fill" mark.

just to be clear, when you say "it easily shows a level that is past the "do not fill" mark" - do you mean the level is inside the area marked "do not fill"?
dipstick.gif
that area is to tell you not to add more oil, not to tell you that the oil level shouldn't be in that area. The oil level should be in the "do not fill" area. if the oil level is in the "fill" area, the manual says to add a litre (quart).

Right, the oil level is past the "do not fill" area, not inside.
