This is the link to Audi's Technical Service Bulletin of Engine Oils that meet Audi Quality Standards. Our R8's (except for GT) require oil that meet Audi Oil Quality Standard VW 502.

Thanks Sundowners but just looking for a 1 oil I should use. Not a list that makes me dizzy..is. Castrol the correct oil? Thanks again!
Your question was already answered in the Thread, on the same topic, you started just one week ago: "http://www.r8talk.com/forums/5-gener...-oil-type.html." I guess your dizziness affects your memory.
While you car is under warranty use the oil that Audi and your Dealer recommend.

Morning Sundowner, sorry that came out wrong. I am a little confused because it seems that no one else got the same recommendation that I did on Castrol. I just want to be sure that is the correct oil instead of calling 5 Audi dealers. Thanks for your patience!
No problem. I believe you have several responses, including mine, in your prior thread (and one in this) that said their Dealer's recommended or they use Castrol EDGE with Syntec 5W40. Audi definitely recommends and approves of Castrol EDGE.
There are many different opinions as to which is the "best" oil. Ask a dozen different individuals and you are likely to get many different opinions. Your safest course, while under warrantee, is to use Castrol EDGE with Syntec because Audi and your Dealer recommend it. Also, if you read some of the current reviews, Castrol EDGE is being recommended in the top tier of oils to use. Hope this helps.
EDIT: After doing my own research I requested approval from Audi to use AMSOIL European Car Formula 5W40 (VW 505.01, VW 505.00 and VW 502 compliant) in my 2012 R8 V10. I just received that approval in an email from my Dealer's Service Director stating that he received approval from his AOA FTS (Area Rep) this morning. AMSOIL is NOT on Audi's list of approved oils and is NOT available in retail stores.

@ woodranch: just to close the loop on this, it is also prudent to mention that some of the recommendations you received in that other thread were from owners in Canada, OZ, and Europe where different oil branding/flavors are offered by the manufacturers vs those you can easily source in Los Angeles.
