Can't help with the updates but with the R-Tronic: Think of your right foot mimicing what it would do when you are changing gear with a 6-MT, but only when changing up. You do not need to completely back of the accelerator pedal, but a slight 'lift' immediately before you pull on the right paddle will help with your smoothness immensely. Changing down is not an issue since the ECU/TCU will ensure that the engine rev matches. Try this for awile when driving at various speeds, revs, etc. It will become second nature when you get used to it.
Obviously at WOT such as at the road course, etc. you do not need to lift even when changing up; just be prepared! lol

maybe the car has already had the update and the software they are using is simply telling them there are no new updates available?

I suppose this is probably a very stupid question - are you are driving in Manual mode? I was driving my v10 spyder today and was thinking how brilliant R-tronic was, so my own experience is counter to yours other than that Auto mode is woeful and closely matches your description.
the other thing that throws people is the speed of change in non-sport at low rpm as the power is disrupted for a more noticeable length of time. when you're changing gear manually with a clutch pedal you're doing something the whole time so it doesn't feel as long vs just waiting for the response from a paddle pull.

Thanks all - I called the 2nd closest dealer, they asked for the VIN, typed it in, and also reported back that no upgrades were available. They didn't say whether mine had the 24R4, just a big "no".
Both dealers seemed like I was nuts for even asking, and clearly neither had any idea what this upgrade was. Amazing how this board knows so much more than the actual dealers..![]()
