Audi CPO: is 1 quart/200 miles considered a warranty repair?

Hi guys, I bought a 2009 R8 with 4K miles and Audi CPO. Love the car, but it uses 1 quart per 190-200 miles. Daily driving. Firm but nothing crazy.

Sounds a bit too high to me even for an R8.

The R8 at my dealer is very responsive and indicated 1 quart per 600 miles to be "normal" but he also agreed 200 miles is too much. He just replaced the oil himself 190 miles ago and is certain it was full. He will add a quart himself tomorrow and create a record. I really like the way he/the dealer is acting by the way.

Was wondering if anyone has had a warranty repair for excessive oil consumption. any advice appreciated...

if my R8 used oil like you guys keep talking about, I'd consider setting that puppy on fire and walk away all cool and slow motion like.

I agree with Slacker. My V8 needed some oil at about 2K then never again up to 13k and this is what most people have experienced. My V10 at 4k has not asked for more oil. I would push them to do something as that level of consumption is high...

You Know whats funny whem i bought my new 2006 bmw m5 the dealer gave me a quart of oil
And i said why he told me at the time its normal on these types of engines....so possibly the r8 v 10
Has the same burning oil issue like the bmw v 10 engine
My friend who has the lambo superleggera says his burns oil also
He said its the way the engine is built ....who knows im not a engine expert.

personally I think it's pretty crappy that audi think 600 miles between top-ups is ok.

With nearly 5,000 miles on my V10, it's never asked for any oil. Even if the oil was changed when the supercharger was installed, that's still 1,000 miles ago and it hadn't used any oil in the first 4,000 miles.

When I took delivery I asked the dealer for a quart of oil "just in case". It's still sat in the trunk...

200 miles per quart? Your cats are probably on fire from all that oil!

My wife's R8 uses hardly a drop. Even after a weekend at the track turning 300+ km in a weekend.

You need to seriously just leave it parked in the middle of their driveway until they fix it.

Please keep us posted on the amount of oil consumption and, in particular, what Audi is prepared to do under the warranty if the situation does not improve.

200 miles per quart? SERIOUSLY? That's more often than a fuel fill.

More importantly, at this volume of use, just where is this oil going?

If it's going through the engine (combustion section), it would be more than enough to cause a nice blue cloud behind you at all times, doing your part to help control the world mosquito population.

Do you smell any oil at any time?
Do you see any oil or oily film on the back bumper fascia?
Is it leaving those embarrassing wet spots when it shouldn't?

I would want to know where the oil's going, not if it's too much. That's entirely too much to be even remotely acceptable.

Dealer said 600 miles is acceptable? I call total BS on that - there's no way. These are not old technology, ancient material machines. These engines are quite cutting edge in both design and materials. They are designed to work within some fairly tight parameters and I guarantee that 600 miles between quart additions is NOT acceptable by the guys that make this engine.

I'm honestly surprised that the average R8 (V8) engine on this forum seems to want a drink every 3.5 - 4K. I feel that's too much for the technology, but that's just my useless opinion.

My handbook states these engines can use up to 1 Litre for every 600 miles,it was exactly the same for my RS4 .I agree that is way too much but that is the official guideline.1 quart per 200 miles sounds like something quite serious.I hope the OP gets a good outcome.
