Engine noise

Anyone have a "phantom engine hood rattle"? By phantom I mean some days the car is dead silent driving around, then a few hours later I will drive the same route and it almost sounds as if the glass engine compartment is loose and rattling inside its frame behind me over every bump. Hours later, same route, silent and tight. Very odd. I'm a new owner, am I somehow unlocking that compartment with the remote by mistake some mornings? I have read the posts on FSI rattling, engine warmup, oil hose, etc however this one is both pronounced and sporadic. Comments appreciated. Thanks!

That sounds interesting. I wonder if your hood latch just needs to be looked at. Is your dealer close?

I had a strange rattle on idle on my V8, took it to Audi and they said it was some kind of shield under the car, and Audi had released some sound deadening material for around the part because of complaints from owners. Had the material fitted, and the rattle has stopped (or at least stopped being audible).
