    Re: Delivery date in US?

I traded my '08 R8 and ordered a V10 last Saturday, January 16. The dealer said to allow 6 months for delivery but that it might be sooner. I had been quoted anywhere from 10 weeks up to 6 months by dealers in Florida and Illinois. I finally decided it was easier to trade where the old car was located and went with the dealer who has serviced the car since new.

What kinds of waiting periods for V10 orders are you guys hearing about in the U.S.? Except for requesting the 305 size tires on the Y-spoke wheel, the options I chose are all on the regular options list. (The dealer hasn't yet let me know whether the wider tires can be had on the standard wheel.)

Thanks for any info you have.

    Re: Delivery date in US?

I got on the wait list for a V10 at Roger Beasley Audi in Austin last July with 5 people in front of me. In November they told me it was my turn and my order was in the queue. She told me I should get delivery in March, but that it could always change. For some reason I have the feeling that I might be waiting six months as well, so it does sound about right...

    Re: Delivery date in US?

Oh, well. I wasn't going to put the car on the road until the winter weather in Chicago broke, anyway . . . and that could be June.

    d**m.

On the other hand, you might luck out and get the car earlier. I ordered my V8 in late September 2007 while the car was in very high demand and selling in the aftermarket at $30K+ over MSRP. The factory was running at full capacity, but the car arrived just before Christmas. I was hoping to hear some similar stories this time around, especially as the factory early last year dropped down to 2 cars per day in output. (I think the capacity is 25 cars per day. The dropoff was probably a combination of the global financial meltdown and some customers holding out for the V10 production to start. I haven't seen anything about what the current daily output is.)

I've hounded the dealer and it seems like once they let you know your car is in production then it takes 3 months for delivery in the US. Nevertheless, I am in the process of building a garage to put it in because right now I would have to park it outside, so I guess waiting is ok.

V10's are always available at or near MSRP on EBAY. Why wait 6 months?

    Re: Delivery date in US?

We have a customer that special-ordered an Audi Exclusive V10 and took delivery in late November, right at 6 mo. after his order was placed. That was right at the beginning of the 5.2L productions, so they might have increased the production since then, but it seems about right...

    Several reasons:

    - to get the color / options I want
    - to be able to trade in my current car without the hassle of having to sell it myself
    - to pay sales tax only on the difference between the trade-in price and the purchase price
    - to avoid the bother of picking up or shipping the car from a remote seller
    - to have a local seller to deal with if any problems develop with the transaction (and to be dealing with only one state's laws if something were to go seriously wrong).

I got a good trade-in price for the old car with 17,000 miles on it, I got the new car at MSRP, and I'm dealing with a dealer who serviced my old car well and whom I trust.

I've driven an r8 for over two years. I'm not so anxious to get the V10 that I would give up the above advantages.

(I have bought almost a hundred art and antique items from eBay over the years, some for many thousands of dollars, and almost always had a good experience. However, I am currently having a seller prosecuted in another state for the fraudulent sale of an oil painting, and besides having had to obtain a lawyer to represent me there, I'm going to have to appear at trial there if the skank doesn't plead guilty (he's already been indicted by the grand jury). On the other hand, eBay reimbursed me the eight thousand dollars I paid for the painting, so my financial loss was covered. It's actually a very responsible company that tries hard to protect its brand. But a few of the people who sell there are con artists. Even though I got my money back, I'm still going after the seller at some cost and inconvenience to myself, because people like him make the internet unsafe for all of us and ought to be held at bay as much as possible.)

I agree with hmp... I am waiting to get exactly what I want. It seems like none of the cars being offered have piano inlays and I had them on my old audi and love it. The dealer gave me a chance to buy a black on black V10 when they received two promotional cars, but they were not what I wanted. I think it is worth the wait to get exactly what I want...plus supporting local business is always good too.
