That's right! It kind of comes back! And I had really forgotten the Bernie Ecclestone connection! But I think there was a particular engineer associated with this idea, who's name is lost to me at this point.

Hey! I'm sorry about the looong winded post! I was sort of thinking it through as I wrote it.

Suffice it to say: The r8's "device" is NOT A WING, IT'S A LIFT SPOILER and as such it DOESN'T NEED TO BE BIG to do it's job. "Why," you say? Read my post

After disabling spoiler I reinstalled the PPI wing with a little less downforce angle . Noticed more tire squeel than usual in turns . Which means I actually have LIFT going on right now !! Will return wing to MAX.downforce setting ...then report. I think Bodhii would normally interject with something like :Be specific with G-force stats , or at least time /seconds comparisons. I am doing the best with the tools I have . which aren't many 'cept for my "Seat of the Pants Tool " Maybe Bodhii can be found on the Supercharged R8 forum, wherever that may be . Once again I got the name of intended thread wrong. Should read- Help me disable rear SPOILER please. Anyone closeby have a wind tunnel I could borrow? Just till I someday get a C.A.D. computational fluid dynamics program ! (that someone else would operate !!) Like R84ME .

Harrison, this is a very interesting thread. I have the PPI kit coming next week and your comments about the wing are the first I have heard of possibly being disruptive. Have you had it on corners at higher speeds, 60- 70mph for example? Hard to see from your video how fast you're going. I've always read that the PPI front spoiler / rear diffuser / rear wing combo would improve upon the car's already solid downforce capabilities.

Thumbs up Re: Help me disable rear wing please.

There is plenty of adjustment that can be made on the PPI rear wing , and it is easy to adjust . PPI boasts that their wing adds downforce while allowing higher top speeds as well . Since we aren't able to hit those top speeds anywhere except at an airstrip or salt flat go with the Max. downforce setting and ENJOY . I have returned the rear wing to Max down force . No more SQUEELING !! I do beleive I have one of the BETTER handling R8s out here . I woud'nt have my R8 any other way , Except for even larger down force front and rear . I can enable the rear spoiler at the flick of a switch if I thought I needed the extra down force though it may be minimal as the spoiler is in fact meant to spoil the air ? rather than purely downforce? Bodhii tried (unsuccsefully) to convince me that the spoiler lifted to add additional COOLING . The speeds in the video were only up to 65 MPH and the rear spoiler had no chance to rise as the next turn would arrive quite quickly...The spoiler stayed down throughout the video . And now the spoiler stays down all the time . My next move is to put a rear diffuser on. But I want at least 6 to 8 fins on my rear diffuser . The diffusers used on the track have as many as 20 air channels !! I am very sure you are going to love your car with the downforce kit . Just be carefull when around bumps/dips . I'm sure you mastered the technique already while being stock . I added washers to front spoiler mounts to make the bolt heads lower than the carbon. this way I have a little insurance to scrape the bolt head before the carbon...in most cases . I HAVE SCRAPED . And will probably buy another set of front spoiler someday !! You probably will purchase a one peice front spoiler , no? My front bumper did not need to be removed to add the front peices .

Re: Help me disable rear wing please.

Thank you, sir. Your comments about the PPI benefits are encouraging. And thanks for your advice on setting it for max downforce, although I'm torn between using the wing because I simply am not used to seeing a big wing on the back (especially at its highest setting). But if the benefits are there, especially on track use, I will put it on. I use three tracks up here regularly and am one of the owners of one of them, so this car is seeing plenty of track time.

Yes, I am getting the one-piece front spoiler, rear diffuser, side skirts and wing. I just added the KW Variant 3 coilovers, which feel awesome for street driving and will eventually adjust for the track. It has a hydraulic front lift operated by a wireless remote. It's insanely cool, and will help lift the car around bumps/humps. Not a good use of money, but then again what is? Getting all the PPI next week and will be painted to match the car.

Just call me Hairy , 'Till the Queen Knights me , I'm no Sir !! The lift kit is very insane , and MANDATORY for a true racer that just can't make it over obstacles. Will we be honored with pics? Take care , and keep the shiney side UP !
