Premier Protective Films - My Experience

I recently took delivery of my R8 "replacement" (and I use the term lightly), a 2011 BMW 335is. One of the “add-ons” provided by the BMW dealer was a clear bra. I specifically requested a single-piece, full hood installation because I never cared for the visible line 3/4 of the way up the hood on my R8 (and previous Boxster S).

My BMW sales consultant forwarded my request to the PPF installer but what was delivered was a 3/4 hood piece (from a kit) + another strip along the top to create a fill hood. I didn't show it when I picked up the car but I was not happy.

Long story short, I ended up driving out to Premier Protective Films in Orange, CA (from Tucson, AZ) to have the dealer installed film removed and replaced with single, custom pieces of 3M VentureSheild. Per Premier, there are only a few vendors manufacturing rolls in sizes large enough to cover body panels and hoods in a single piece.

During the course of the removal, Premier noted several areas where the paint was scored with a razor blade during the dealer provided installation. Not cool! These photographs were taken by Kris & Mike during the process. Thought you all would enjoy the pics.

Anyone desiring a truly uncompromising, professional job with a lifetime warranty should contact Premier at either of their locations in NorCal or SoCal.

Oh, and Bill, the guys say "Hi!"

I am glad you were happy with Premier's work. Several people have praised them repeatedly. I drove to their Orange County location and considered using them. I will definitely go there the next time I want a car done.

It is a crime what the dealers have done to their cars. What is amazing is that most owners are clueless to the fact that there are better installers out there. The inferior work just makes people think that it is a bad product and should be avoided.

As I was painfully reminded, the dealers are only out to do one thing - make money. They're not going to sell you something like this because the profit is zero. The installers they use are like bands of Gypsies that move through dealerships with very little accountability. Not so with Premier.

Pretty incredible attention to detail from Premier. I think Kris and Mike put about 40 man-hours into my new Corvette when I had it covered.
Initially, I thought their prices seemed quite high. Recently I priced the 60" wide Ventureshield material from a supplier: almost $1,000 a roll! So given the material cost, the amount of skill (artistry?) required to do the job right, plus the sheer number of man-hours involved, I decided their prices aren't so high after all.

It's true. They stripped the film from the hood, bumper, 2 front quarters, reapplied VentureShield and added the rocker panels. I brought it in at 9am & Mike gave me a ride to Disneyland. Spent the day there, thought I'd be back about 530 when the shop closed. Right. I got the car back about 9pm. Talk about a work ethic! I thought I was tired...

I had the same bad experience when I took delivery of my benz and decided to let their vendor do the clearshield. Boy was that a mistake. I took it to premier to get everythng pulled off. No scored paint with razor blades, but when they washed the car before putting hte shield on, they put on so many swirls that premiere had to spend an extra 3 hours buffing to clean the paint up. Learned my lesson there. Dealers are stealers by nature, so just pay for the car and go!
