    Greetings all,

Hoping to move on a R8 v10 Coupe purchase in the next few weeks.

Didnt see any threads of anyone enhancing or adding to the sound system..

additional amp (s), maybe a sub...

One of the Few things I am considering..

    thoughts?

    Thank you!

The B & O is really good to begin with. With the bass turned up to max the wing mirror glass actually shakes. Any more amps and I would get a serious headache :P

For me the B&O is perfectly fine.

Goes nice and loud when I need it,does not distort and has a deep bass with all the treble you will ever need.

Is it Audiophile..a bit short for sure but certainly a cut above a lot of cars out there..

Some are critical of the system, but aren't we suppose to be listening to the engine in the first place?

Better things to spend your money on with a R8.

This is not a shot at you, instead a legitimate question: How old are you? And an answer of older or younger than 30 is more than sufficient.

Reason for me asking is, if it's under 30 then the question is fully understandable. It was always one aspect of a vehicle that I changed out those many years ago, as it was important to me at the time.

And, as you've seen by the other two responses, it's not really something that you want to mess with. There's really nothing wrong w/the B&O setup. No, it won't make your ears bleed, no it won't rattle the teeth out of the person in the car next to you at the stop light (and most of us really don't want to be in the car next to you and hear what you're listening to either), but overall, it's a good sounding, quality system, especially considering how much room is not available in the cabin of the car.

If you value any of the limited space in the R8 for practical usage, the installation of a sub on the back shelf is pretty much out of the picture.

Once again, not bagging on you at all, just offering thoughts, since you asked.

No Offense taken, at all, in fact, I should have prefaced the question with that data.. meaning.. I get you =)

Im 48, soon to be 49.

Genre wise, Im more of a Radiohead, Coldplay, Pink Floyd kinda guy.

As one of the posters above mentioned, its just been habit, to consider adding to the system, in most previous cars.

Of course, the true harmony of the R 8 is the engine sound, but, I do intend on taking the vehicle on an extended road trip of the US spring / summer, and Music is a big part of my ability to keep my head on straight. thus the questions.

Great to hear the B&O satisfies.

Solves that question, it seems. One less area requiring additional spending!

    Thank you for the responses.

Much appreciated that you get it. (was afraid I was going to insult with the age question and was not my intention)

Give the B&O a shot. It's quite sufficient. Spend the cash you'd use on an audio system and put it towards a Valentine V1 radar detector and a Blinder M47 laser jammer.

You'll enjoy the car on extended road trips. I've been across the country in an R8 more than once and it's an incredibly comfortable long drive ride. (and loads of fun through the back roads of Colorado & Utah)

    Thank you kfabR8!

    w00t w00t!

Im a geek naturally, so.. just an obvious consideration.

Im currently in a SLK, and found the OEM H-K system to be sufficient as well, well, that, and it is leased..so no mods, and really, found none were needed!

    Thanks again for the responses

I'm laughing since I can totally relate to these postings. I replaced the stock sound system in the first six cars I owned since high school because stock radios really sucked and you could easily swap out the standard dash mounted Delco clunkers and mount some sweet 6 x 9 triaxials in the rear deck! I had tried everything - Kenwood, Alpine, Sony, Blaupunkt, etc.

Once car manufacturers started getting into multi-function consoles with integrated sounds systems and partnering with audio companies like Bose, Harman Kardon, etc. it made it more difficult and less necessary to pull out the stock system. I have always ordered whatever "premium" system offered as an option and some of been great and others are still only acceptable. I think the B&O offered in the R8 is quite good and you should be happy. Be sure to get the AMI so you have full iPod integration.

I do find at times in the summer, with the windows down, turning down the volume so that I can just listen to the sound of car though.

    Exactly, my brother!

    Heh..thank you for the support!

Ya, ami seems important. Currently using a thumb drive in the SLK

Will go SD, or bring the 32 gb thumb drive and get the usb dongle

Audio quality is a subjective issue.

Most people would find the sound package of the R8 more than adequate, and others may not. It's just like the performance of the R8, or the exhaust note, etc,

I've noticed that you will be using SD's, or the AMI. So I'm assuming that you find the sound quality produced by such format acceptable. If such was the case, you may find the factory equipment reasonably adequate in its intent and purpose.

Regardless, the R8 sound system can be upgraded or even retrofitted, but you may lose the use of the audio multifunction feature on the steering wheel. If you change the head unit, the Audi Navigation Audio Controller is integrated into the Car Network and this may require people with the necessary expertise to reconfigure the system. If you want to upgrade that amp, you may want to consider that the current amp being multichannel DSP with surround capability. You may try improving the speakers, and hopefully they match the system and produce the sound quality you looking for.

    Regards,
    Ritz
