    Paint job Advice

Hi all, i am considering painting the following parts in high gloss black ( the black color that the back of the v10's is painted with):
    1. The front air vent blades
    2. The rear air vent blades
    3. The rear stock diffuser.

First does anyone know the code for that high gloss paint at audi?
Secoundly audi say that the back air vent blades get really hot so the paint might chip off ( i am painting the stock v8 blades).
Thirdly i read on the forum some where that the rear diffuser is not made of solid plastic but more of a maliable type hence would that mean the paint wont hold either?

Anyone who did this already please advise with thanks :-)

Why not just swap for V10 parts? I did the conversion and wasnt that expensive considering how much other members spend on alloy wheels :P

I prefer the v8 look over the v10 ( i prefer the quad exhaust and the bumper in white) i also prefer the stock v8 titanium rims i have :-)

The rear stock diffuser is flexible as I found when I replaced it with Capristo carbon fiber. When you switch to rigid like carbon fiber you need to be more careful with bumps. I do not think it would be wise to try to paint the stock part. Besides the CF replacement parts from Audi or others look much better even if more care with bumps is required. I also replaced the rear fins with Capristo carbon fiber and so far (5000 miles) heat does not seem to be a problem. The OEM parts are rigid so you might be able to paint them but do not know about the heat issue.

Any of the plastic surfaces can be painted (and all the plastic is solid, otherwise it would leak air...).

Who ever you have paint the stuff should be smart enough to use a flexing agent to prevent cracking and such.

Rear louvers do get hot, but any of the quality automotive paints should be able to handle the temps. Once again, make sure that a flexing agent is used and that proper surface prep is used.

Surface prep is probably the most important aspect of painting, so make sure it's done correctly.

Thanks for the input guys. Problem is that audi are asking me for the paint code which means they will paint it as if it were the bumper with non flexible paint then :-(.. Confusing decision what to do. The carbon fiber would be ace but the prices are horrific for cf parts on the r8.

I completely agree that prices for CF parts on the R8 are horrific.

The audi dealer can't find the V10 paint code for the trim? I was going to do the same thing you are doing before I got traded it, and all I told them was to paint the parts the same as the V10 trim, they never asked for the code?

I feel they are asking for the code so that if they paint the diffuser with the paint i asked for and then it chips, blame is on me :-(
