Bumper has to come off to properly install the V10 side grills. We have done them a few times, but no photos around here to share.
Where in Cali are you? We have some V10 grills if you'd like to come by and see how they install...

Hey anyone remove the rear bumper grills/fins on each side of the audi r8 ? cannot find anyone who has done this. want to change the stock black fins to carbon fiber. Help gary from wisconsin. 2009 r8 thanks....
SO it's possible to just swap the OEM front intake grills for the V10 larger ones?
Can this be done for the rear bumper as well?
OEMPlus, can you PM me the cost to do the front and rear?

@ gary: They're quite easy to pull out. V8 or V10? Who's fins? If they (mfg) use a lesser grade of clear coat plan on getting yellow streaks. It WILL happen, I promise. Mine are quite streaked. I will say that my exhaust probably makes a bit more heat, especially in the finned area of the bumper.
@s4: Yes, it's an "almost bolt in" mod. You'll have to clip two tabs off the backside of the V10 intakes to make it fit in the V8 bumper. The V10 pieces completely frame the hole they fit in, so removal of the two little tabs isn't an issue. The rest of the tabs fit right into the spot that the V8's horizontal parts clip in.
Depending on the tightness of the install, you may want to go get some clips (I need to resource these again - they are OEM Audi pieces) that slide over the tabs and will hold the new V10 frames tightly up against the front bumper facia.
V10 rear louvers will not in V8 bumper facia.
