How to disable the OEM R8 rear spoiler using Audi diagnostic software

I wanted to share this PDF document which explains how to deactivate the OEM R8 rear spoiler for anyone who may need it using the Audi equipment VAS.

    http://www.fiftypencer8.com/wp-conte...on-process.pdf

Here are the instructions for anyone else wishing to deactivate the rear spoiler using VCDS:

Short Method scroll down for the more detailed method

    1. You will be presented with the following main screen of VCDS

    2. Click the Options button bottom right

    3. You will be presented with this screen, click TEST, OK then SAVE

4.. Click on SELECT below Select Control Module

5.. You will be presented with this screen, click on 46-Central Conv.

    6.. Click on Coding - 07

    7. Highlight and copy the current coding (the big long number) and paste it into a text file or Word file etc just somewhere safe incase you need it later.

    8. Paste the number into the bottom box New Coding

    9. Change the 8th number along to a 2.
In my case this went from being
    1890200201182D098505489AD633
    to
    1890200001182D098505489AD633

    10. Notice how I have only changed the 8th number along to a 0 to deactivate the rear spoiler.

    More Detailed Method

    1. You need a VCDS HEX-USB+CAN cable from Ross-Tech or occasionally from eBay sellers before their listings are withdrawn.

    2. Plug the cable into the OBD-II port which is located in the drivers footwell above the pedals.

    3. Insert the key and turn on the ignition

    4. Connect the USB end of the cable to your laptop

    5. Open the VCDS Application

    6. You will be presented with the following main screen of VCDS

    7. Click the Options button bottom right

    8. You will be presented with this screen, click TEST, OK then SAVE

    9. Click on SELECT below Select Control Module

    10. You will be presented with this screen, click on 46-Central Conv.

    11. Click on Coding - 07

    12. Highlight and copy the current coding (the big long number) and paste it into a text file or Word file etc just somewhere safe incase you need it later.

    13. Click on Long Coding Helper

    14. You will be presented with this screen. At point 1) you can see the entire coding then at 3) the coding is split into blocks with an explanation below which allows you to change the coding.

    15. The fourth pair of numbers is called Byte 3 as detailed in the picture below. You can see at the bottom there is a checkbox next to Bit 1 which refers to Electric Rear Spoiler Installed

    16. Uncheck the box and click EXIT top-left

    17. The new coding will be entered in the bottom box automatically

    18. Click on Do It!

    19. VCDS will confirm if the coding has been applied correctly.

    20. Close the VCDS Application and disconnect the cable from the OBD-II port of the vehicle.

    21. All finished, the button in the centre console for the rear spoiler should no longer work and the rear spoiler will no longer rise at the pre-determined speed automatically because it has been completely disabled.

I'll actually be attempting the process myself using VCDS in the next few days and if that fails I'll have Audi sort it out using the above defined procedure.

Very cool, I want to disable mine so it stays up. Fifty pence regarding your message about the miltek I think I am going to buy a quicksilver titan exhaust instead.

np Mark, you may have read that I've ordered the Tubi Style exhaust and now just waiting for it to arrive.

I seem to recall that Danko had the tubi style system at one stage or did he have the milltek then moved on to the quicksilver system?

The control system may allow you to disable the rear spoiler whilst it is in the up position but I would imagine it would go back down as part of the process.

Thumbs up Re: How to disable the OEM R8 rear spoiler using Audi diagnostic software

I just snipped the RED wire near the wing motor wire loom and installed a switch in line. I am digging the switch.

Re: How to disable the OEM R8 rear spoiler using Audi diagnostic software

hey guys, i think about changing the original spoiler to the GT one...
found this point in my vcds already, but talked to some guys from audi. they said u need to take care cause the abs (don't know if its same in english - the safety brake function ^^) is seperating between spoiler in use or not. so the question is if this coding is enough or u need to do some more changes..
doesn't want to try i its working right over 200km/h so maybe someone got more detailed informations.

Re: How to disable the OEM R8 rear spoiler using Audi diagnostic software

Everything worked fine for me during a recent trip to Europe with the R8 even at high speed.

Therefore, the coding and the insulating of the pin in the spoiler button mentioned above is perfectly adequate.

Arantador, please share pictures once you have had the spoiler fitted. Are you going with the genuine R8 GT spoiler?

Re: How to disable the OEM R8 rear spoiler using Audi diagnostic software

yep, going with the original R8 GT spoiler, diffusor, rear bumper and tailgate+window in polycarbonate
i will put on some pictures when the car is finished - still waiting for the full cage to get the FIA certification and to pass the TÜV/MOT to be street legal

but back to topic, if u tested it - okay, great thank u. i was just thinking about it because the audi guy made a big topic out of the ABS "problem", alternativ i keep the orginial lifters stored somewhere in the back so they can move and the car thinks the spoiler is still original
