    Modifying My Interior

Ben at Wheels Boutique and I are collaborating on making a small project out of modifying my car's interior by adding black Alcantara and red stitching. I've got enough CF already so I'm not planning on adding any more bits of CF.

One thing I'd like to change is the color of the seat belts from black to red. Does anyone know if this is even possible? Does Audi sell the entire seat belt unit to bolt in or is it too complicated with electronics to mess with? I don't want the racing harness - I get can that in red all day long - I just want the regular shoulder/lap belts. Any helpful advice or referral to a vendor will be greatly appreciated.

This is the target I am shooting to emulate, though not precisely like this, but close:

Why not just shoot an email over to SR Auto? I got my ADVs from them (they're in Vancouver). If you want, I could ask for you.

The GT comes with red belts when you order the track pack. It's not available here, but we are working to get it sorted on the other side...

www.AircraftBelts.com could probably re-web them for you. They claim to have over 200 colors available.

    Re: Modifying My Interior

Being a safety issue I wouldn't want to modify the seat belts by changing the strap; what I really need is the complete Audi unit to bolt in, and not the GT racing harness, just street seat belts in red. No big deal if unavailable: the original black belts are fine as-is.

@R8Spyderman, actually I think a red or possibly another color seatbelts would go a long way towards a unique look. I doubt you can get OEM parts with different color belts (Porsche does that IIRC) but I wouldn't worry too much if a professional shop swaps those belts for you, especially one specializing in aviation.

I should mention that I have a little experience with Aircraft Belts (when they were in Texas) quite a few years back. They rewebbed one of the inertia reels from my airplane. (I burned the webbing with a soldering iron; clumsy oaf trick.) Their turn-around time and the quality was excellent. BTW, I'd maybe just not tell them they are from a car to avoid awkward questions.

I checked ETKA (the official Audi parts database) and they only list the seatbelt in black so it doesn't appear to come in any other colour from Audi themselves.

Also Spidey, I know the Spyder can come with a telephone mic in the driver seatbelt on the UK model, do you have that in your US-spec vehicle?

Yes, and thanks for reminding me because I wouldn't want to lose that! Oh well, no red seat belts for me unless I opt to buy the GT racing seats and belts, but at over $15K, not sure it's worth it. What I am doing next week is having added thickness to the bottom cushion so as to have my butt riding at least an inch higher than it is now so that the steeply raked sides of the bucket don't hit my outer thigh so sharply. The entire center section of each seat & seat back will be covered in black Alcantara and red top-stitching will be added where possible. We'll also be covering a lot of other surfaces in the black Alcantara: the frame at the bottom of the door opening, the console, the knee rest, the gauge shroud and the nav surround will all be covered in black suede with red stitching. Not sure if we'll touch the doors or not. That remains to be seen. Should like bloody mahvelous!

    Re: Modifying My Interior

I seem to recall the R8 GT comes with regular red seatbelts aswell as the harnesses though so it could still be possible........
