    Convertible Top

I think the Audi R8 is a incredible machine. I'm pesonally a fan of convertibles and as much as the vehicle is. It's dissapointing that they dont offer a hard top covertible. I love to have the features of the V10 look in the back window but still have the convertible feature.

    Re: Convertible Top

sorry, but IMO it was a mistake when the Mazda Miata dropped the ragtop in favor of a metal one and I think it'll be an even worse mistake for the R8. Folding hardtops are fine for GT cars but not sports cars, IMO. The only way I'd welcome it would be if it facilitated having a glass engine window, but if Audi can figure out a way to stow a folding hardtop so that it won't cover the engine, they can do the same with a soft top and I'm still a fan of the old school look of a soft top, anyway so my vote is against.

The BMW E46 series had a very pretty, removable, hard top.

Think about this guys for a moment, when the roof is off you need to loose the window, where on earth on an R8 could you store a huge rear window with a folding roof.

O I see you are advocating the return of the :-

    Re: Convertible Top

I quite liked how Honda did it with their NSX-T, using a clamshell design in their engine bay cover to store/conceal the removable roof panel.

But I guess the OP is talking about a full, mechanically folding top. Can't see that working on a mid-engine car.

    Exclamation Re: Convertible Top

Porsche offered a removeable hard top for their Turbo "Speedster" model. It even had a shorter windshield height. Always been a model I'd like to add to my stable.

I also like the Boxster Spyder aka "Speedster", though I don't think it is turbocharged, but Harrison might be talking about another model? I'd love to see an R8 Speedster with a removable hard top and - if possible - a manual folding cloth top but in such a design that would permit a glass engine lid, something sorely missed on the Spyder.
