Cell Phone/MP3 Player Mount for R8

First, a big thank you to all the forum members for the wealth of info posted. I just picked up a used R8 (V8, 6 Speed, Silver, B&O, Mag, Full Leather) and the info here was invaluable.

Any suggestions on a mount for Cell Phone/MP3 Player? I had one mounted to a dash vent in my 911 which worked great but the vents are too far away/angled up in the R8.

There's not much room, is there?

There are some mounts which go into the cigarette lighter, such as these Belkin Tunebase devices. I've used the first one and it is functional. You can use the built in FM modulator, but it also has a jack so you can use a cord to the aux-in jack in the center console if you prefer.

The cradle charger draws power from your lighter outlet to keep your device fully charged.

In my other cars I use a bluetooth audio gateway to stream music from my phone/Ipad into the stereo. Not sure how the coupe is setup, but the aux in is hidden in a compartment in the spyder. If you can figure out a way to tap power you would be all set. You could then leave your iphone/ipod in the cupholder, pocket, etc

I also have the AUX input in the compartment behind the cup holders. I would say you could extend the cord and be able to close the compartment. As RAT8 suggested, place the phone into the cupholder, and then use the cigarette lighter with a charger. It may not look pretty, but it's effective.

Where is the aux in the spyder?

Thanks guys! Sitting in the cup holder is working. I just need to figure out how to get power back there w/o using the ash tray cig power as it hits my elbow when shifting (RHD).

It's in the covered compartment directly behind the cup holders. I don't have a coupe but I think it's in the same spot? Would have been great if Audi put a 12V socket in there as well, but I would think any halfway decent audio/electronics installer could rectify that pretty easily. I may go this route later if I miss streaming pandora in the car.

I just purchased a spyder on Tuesday and looked last night and could not find it. Granted it was dark and I was tired. I will look again. Was it an option you added? I am looking at getting the AMI 3.5 mm cable for my iphone so I can stream pandora and MLB games, but then I will need another cable to charge. The AMI ipod cable will not allow me to turn the iphone ipod off and stream any other app.

I'm using an old iPod mount that plugs into the cig adaptor; I just run the line out from the Aux input in the armrest (I tucked it under the center console along the passenger side, so you see almost no cord). Ascetically it's not perfect, but I think it works well enough (especially given how important iPhone music input is for me).

I had tried using the cup holder initially, but I found it placed the iPhone too far back to safely use while driving.

Sorry, the picture's not the best but you get the idea...
