You can have your car wrapped with Premier Satin Guard or Xpel Stealth films. These are the same thickness as regular clear bra products so provide far more protection from road debris than the vinyl wraps which are much thinner. However, the Premier and Xpel products will only produce a matt finish of the underlying paint colour. To change the colour of the car, you have to go with a vinyl wrap.

As for price I believe a complete wrap using the Premier or Xpel products may run you approximately $5,000 or more. This is for complete coverage of the external painted surfaces. One very important point is to choose a highly recommended installer. Get references unless of course you actually use Premier in CA who are widely regarded as the best in the business. I don't know the price of the various coloured vinyl wraps, but one, (the only?), advantage to using them is that you can 'change' the colour of your car.

I saw a couple cars with with full satin film wrap while I was a Premier (Fremont). In particular there was a white GT3 which looked stunning (somehow, they also managed to get the film over the car's racing stripes and you couldn't tell that there was film applied) but the best of them was a dark grey lambo which looked like the stealth fighter. The Premier guys said that they had not yet done an R8 and were trying to sell me on it.

I have to say that the satin finish really does look good in person though.

Thanks Bish, this seems like the best option. Pricey, but perhaps worth it given that it acts like a full body clear bra. The satin finish looks amazing and is closer than what I am looking for compared to a true matte finish.

I was going to do the satin wrap on my Jet-blue, thinking I'd be the one and only - then I find that the 2011 Spyder is available in this finish. I must have a clone of myself working over at Audi.
