    R8 gear nob insert

Apologies for what feels like a dumb question but any clues as to how I remove the plastic insert with the R8 logo on it that is embedded in the end of the gear nob ? My local dealer is utterly in the dark and only able to offer to sell me a whole new unit which is total overkill.

I'm waiting for my 6speed shift cap and looks like this is how to remove.

Yep, just unscrew the knob itself, and use something to push it out from the other end.

Perfect, thank you both. Job done with the aid of a steel chopstick. Now I can progress next stage of polishing the aluminium and perhaps making something uniquely bling for the insert.

At the risk of testing goodwill here, which supplier would you recommend for carbon additions elsewhere ?

I've made a couple shift knobs now. First one required destruction of the stocker to figure out how it went together (and save the middle piece).

My current one is made of titanium and the center section is carbon wrapped. I kept it matte finish. - it's surprising the number of people that make comments when they see it.

btw, if you want to get fancy when you polish it, put it in the oven at about 250 for 10 minutes. This will break down the green loc-tite bonding agent and allow you to unscrew the two body pieces and remove the knurled center section. It shouldn't hurt the plastic insert that keeps the knob stuck to the end of the shifter's lever.

Much appreciated. And MACarbon is considered one of the best suppliers for carbon bits for the interior ? I confess to be never having seen any of their work, but I guess that I am in the wrong part of the world for that and this is my first toy from Audi.

Pictured here, are my c.f. radio surround, E-brake handle, ash tray lid, and shift knob. All done by MA Carbon. They come very highly recommended.
