My new R8-RS Steering wheel! Pics inside :D

Hi Guys,

Thought I show you one of latest purchases for the R8,

Its the 2010 R8-RS? steering wheel ( I believe these comes with the Spyders only? )

Features a far more better gripping area/ material and also beautiful aluminum silver paddles and finally the R8 badge!

That's correct they have a larger grip area too, so much nicer to hold onto!

Very nice wheel. The polished paddles are standard on the V10, but not on the V8, so it's nice to see them make it onto this version. I've got the p/n's here and will dig up some pricing...

Did you do the install yourself and where did you get the new steering wheel?

I've been bringing in TTRS units for fitment on many models for over a year or so now which are the same basic steering wheel (minus the paddles). The original R8 steering wheel is the same as the TT, TTS and S3 design which is somewhat skinny in terms of thickness. With the TTRS and RS6 steering wheels Audi moved to a thicker steering wheel and now have jumped to that on the R8 V10 models as well.

Here you can see a shot of a converted TTRS on an RS4 (same thicker steering wheel as the R8 V10 steering wheel, however with full air leather):



The nicest part about upgrading to the newer R8 V10 unit is that you all don't need to change your airbag. All of the RS4, S5, S6, S8 and forth owners I've dealt with have had to swap over to a round airbag since their models did not have these from the factory.

The price on the steering wheel is quite nice as well in terms of simple and satisfying modifications:

R8 V10 Multi-Function Steering Wheel (w/o paddles) - $849.00 each

R8 V10 Multi-Function Steering Wheel (w/ alu paddles) - $949.00 each

These steering wheels also come with an R8 badge fitted as standard fare, which can be eliminated if warranted as you can swap out the blank lower plate on your current wheel if needed.

Bought it from a friend I will have the steering wheel installed by AUDI I will post pictures when I have it installed, it feels A HELL lot better! + nice LED lights on the paddles and nice gloss black ring before the air bag, very classy!

You will really enjoy that upgrade. I've got a TTRS unit in my hands right now next to my desk, nice, thick, contoured, really so much better than the smaller original steering wheel. I am surprised Audi chose the smaller thickness from the start, the R8 uses the exact same steering wheel as the TT, same part number even!
