I found Davey Dee!

Out on Rodeo Drive yesterday, playing tourist, I came across the infamous Davey Dee's ride.

This is one car that I've always wanted to see in person and I'm really glad that I happened upon it.

As I, along with 284 other people, snapped pix I heard a tour van go by stating "And on the right you can see a 1.7 million dollar Bugatti." I get the feeling it sits here quite a bit on display. No clue if it's part of the business it's in front of or not.

I know this is going to sound bad, but man, the thing is NOT that pretty. It's very unique, impressive and the "Wow factor" is definitely there, but finally seeing one in the flesh was really sort of disappointing. Not sure what I expected, but in person what ever it was, wasn't there.













I actually think this Alpha is a lot better looking. I also felt like a Cell Phone Stalkeratzi snapping pix as I walked by as it sat in traffic.

In my mind I was thinking "Yea, I know what it feels like to be the guy in the driver's seat with some goof standing there snapping pix of me." The guy never looked over at me and made eye contact. He knew what I was doing and, as per the first pic, doesn't appear to have become comfortable with the Stalkeratzi.





I have to hand it to Rodeo Drive. I saw a couple of Ferraris, the Bugatti, the Alpha, loads of Mercedes (one sounded wicked and I'm not sure what it was. It was de-badged and I don't know my MB's at all), Bentleys, Rolls Royces, an Aston (I think it was a DB9? - once again, don't know AM's at all, but it did look good) too many M badged BMWs and a few Jags. If it was on the exotic or high end spectrum, it was there.

The only thing I didn't see was a Lambo of any sort nor one of our beloved R8s. My daughter says she saw a Lambo, but I missed it. It's pretty funny watching an almost 15 year old girl suddenly turn towards a high performance exhaust note with the same silly look on her face as I.

Overall, the scenery was a blast to watch driving (and walking - wow! there are some GOOD looking women out there) by as my daughter, her friend and I wandered up and down the street.

I did my best to "represent" our four ringed brand with the old RS6. If nothing else, the valet guy liked it.

If it is Davey Dee's full credit to him that its actually painted... although it looks as though he couldn't make up his mind if he preferred red or black.

I was speaking with Desparado yesterday and Davies' name came up!! Just can't help wondering about the guy. He has become ICONIC. Kfab, if you are near Montebello let me know and you can come by for a swim.

So...

In the past two years I've seen a dozen or so R8's on show room floors.

It was over a year after I got mine that I finally saw one out in the world; a red one in Montgomery, OH and then a few months later another red one in a parking lot at Disney Land.

Now, in the past two days, my daughter and I have seen a silver one in Manhattan Beach, CA and then we saw a black/silver blade one this evening on Las Vegas Blvd. - I wanted to say "Hey, go to R8talk.com" to the guy, but my lane of traffic was moving faster. HA! I passed an R8 w/an RS6.

Man, they look good on the road. No wonder people attack us w/cell phones.

It also caught me off guard just how dammm good it sounded as he started moving in traffic. I'm so used to the sound from inside that I'm really unfamiliar with it as a spectator.

While my old RS6 is more than worthy (great travel from Phoenix to LA to Las Vegas - set the cruise @ 90 and love the ride), it's not an R8. I've become so used to driving the R8 every day, that the old RS is just sort of, well... blah. Great machine, but...

My daughter and I are both missing the R8 desperately and being here in Vegas while owning an R8 that's not with us is torture. - or as she just said "It just sucks!"

My daughter loves the R8 as much as I do and was not happy when she saw what I did to it. Can't say I blame her.

Once again, I must ask, is it wrong to love a car???

It really is an honor to be part of this "club". I had no clue of the pleasure, fun and attention that it was going to bring when I first got in it and pulled out of the parking lot in Houston two years ago. There's just nothing like it and I truly appreciate it, sharing our fun on this forum and the members of this forum very much.

Drive on guys, drive on!

I have seen the Bugatti twice in Germany (black/beige and blue/black) and I have the same opinion: it is an ugly but still sensational automotive concept. I am missing shape and lines of classic design, but maybe I am just not such a modern guy....

The Alfa Romeo is a 8C Competizione, they built only 500 spyder and 500 coupes. MSRP is close to our R8s and I was actually pondering some time over this alternative. IMHO it is too much italian for me but still an awesome car.

At least 2 Veyrons @ Monterey! Very nice sounding and handling almost all black one with nice orange lower body orange accents paced the UNBELIEVABLE Bugatti race on Saturday where they had 37 or 38 vintage Bugs racing in one race!!!.

The Bugatti pits were almost over the top amazing: I stopped counting at over 45 vintage Bugs....wretched excess for sure! So many I didn't even know which ones to photograph! Couple of the newer old timers were cutting some pretty fast laps in the race, though I can't blame the bunch who were being pretty kind to their old mounts and kind of just parading around. Lotta $$ out there and no ready spares!!

That Bugatti belongs to some guy named Bijan (I only guessed because of the cap on the dash). His store was probably 6 feet from his car on rodeo drive. I guess he sells cologne or something. Maybe you guys already knew, but I just found out.
