Chiptuning....done and reporting

Dear All,

I am happy to report that I have just yesterday completed a chiptuning of my R8,after about 3000 km from new.

The work has been performed by DIGITALTUNIG in Biasca, Switzerland.

Nominal torque gain is about 73 Nm, for a total of 503 N/m at about 4250 rpm.

The improvement in power delivery is evident.

The engine now pulls strongly from 2000rpm and 4th and 5th gear have become usable from below 3000 rpm (typical back-road conditions).

In numerical terms,my estimation of the performance improvement is as follows:

from 100 km/h to 140 km/h in 6th gear the time I measured manually dropped by about 2 seconds (from 10 to 8)

Basically when you slow down at highway speeds you can now pull back again in 6th gear, without experiencing the sluggish response and the need to drop a gear.

The engine appears also more free-revving in the 3000 - 6000 rpm range.

At runabouts the stronger torque at low speed is evident from the fact that you can now engage the ESP in 3rd gear rather easily.:p

Sorry I can not report about top speed or accelleration at the present time.

I can say that the initial impression of this tuning is very positive.:D

If not a substantially faster car,it is now a more rewarding drive in real world conditions.

Hope you will find it interesting.

Cheers

Well done!! Finally, someone has chipped the R8!! I'm glad the outcome is positive. I can't wait for someone in Australia to provide an ECU upgrade. I will be first in line!

Keep us posted with any more updates. Any plans for a new exhaust?

How difficult is it to install?

Rather easy.

It took them about 1.5 h in their workshop to upload the new software via the check-up port.

I was waiting while they did it.

Cheers

For anybody that may be interested, here is the web site of the company that did my work: www.digitaltuning.ch

They are present in a few european countries.

A gain of 73Nm? No Way possible with an N/A engine! Those are gains for a Turbo engine.

30 to 40 Nm is more expectable.

Waaw!! That's not bad!!
I agree with guilty that a jump of 73Nm is quite a lot for such an engine (without turbo or compressor). With Ziptuning, you would get +34Nm for +37HP as a comparison.
Anyway I am quite interested and I will put digitaltuning on my short list.
Please CeBe give us some more feedback when you have a chance.
Thank you :)

This is the page from their website, but I'd agree that the torque gain looks on the high side.

seems to be high but then again the hp gain is "only" 30 which i think is realistic

thanks for the link steved

i might try that aswell.. but what about warranty? all gone? (probably stupid question)

digital Tuning are just giving percentage figures.
The data’s are not correct at all.

The say they will increase the Nm with XX% as well as the HP.

If look on their web-page they even can increase the NM of a Porsche GT3 997 by 65 NM and the HP by 17.

Well i think if this would have been so easy Porsche would have optimized their GT3RS as well.

and if you check any other car with more or less the same HP like a RS4B7 or R8 you’ll find out that the data’s are the same.

The Top of the list is the new M3 V8 with 420HP
They claim that the car would run 318 KM/H.

Yes the M3 is limited to 250km/h but 318 after modification and removing the km/h limiter.

The reputation of Digital Tuning is not the best.

And don’t even thing about guarantee............no matter what they promise on their web page.

Did anyone try out MTM for tuning their R8 or have you heard anything about them for our car???
