Report: Electric Audi R8 Back On?

After vehemently denying rumors that the company is working on an electric version of the R8 sports car, Audi is stirring up interest by launching a new website called Electricity Untamed. There isn't much on the site, expect for a drawing of a sports car that could be an R8, or a TT, or even, well, any Audi.

There's also a brief message saying that "electricity will be untamed" on September 15th, which, by no coincidence, is the first day of the Frankfurt Auto Show.

Whether Audi actually does have plans for a zero-emissions R8 to compete with cars like the electric Mercedes SLS gullwing remains to be seen.

As for the Audi what we've seen i guess its pretty appealing and i hope it has good specs.

I agree , Audi will easily blow Bimmer out of the water on this one. Probably blow its doors off too. A boat is like a hole in the ocean you dump money into. :eek: :eek: :eek: I see Teslas' on the road already, it won't be long before we see more electric exotics. "Electrexotics" :)

I'd definitely be interested in an electric R8. I cross-shopped the R8 and the Tesla Roadster and while I like the instant-torque and the fact that I wouldn't have to fill up the roadster, it was small and ugly.

An electric R8 would mean the best of both worlds

personally I like the bmw concept, but there's no way on gods earth it'd end up looking anything like that even if they did actually build it - it's just a bit of "design language"..

If audi do unveil an all electric concept I hope it doesn't go the way of the tdi concept - but if they did launch it with decent range, charge time and performance it's something I'd give consideration to even though I'd miss the engine note. There's something spookily enticing about the slight electric whine of the tesla as it charges at the horizon.

Only rode in one once, but yeah man, it's like being on a rollercoaster. No gear changing just full torque up to redline. And of course the whiiiiiiiine

I think that was someone's mockup. Had certain vents closed off etc.

5 days to go i think :p Anyone have any idea when this will be available for order? I'm pretty sure i'm going to get one for in the US :rolleyes:

we'll know if they announce it as a production spec model, but I'd expect it to be a concept like the diesel they did - hope it doesn't share the same fate.

I'm guessing it will be put into production, maybe not as soon as we think but eventually it will do seeing as electric cars are most probably 'the future.'
