Victim of a Hit and Run in Parking Lot

How bad does the damage look?

I have a clear bra on the car and it appears to have mitigated some of the damage but I'm curious whether the hood/fender (the dents that look like ripples) can be repaired or if they have to replace the whole piece? Assume they have the replace the side mirror as the carbon fiber is scratched.

The guy who did it didn't leave a note but, fortunately, the police were able to identify him based on security footage in the parking lot. He claims to have not even realized he hit my car (which is an entirely separate issue), but seems to be cooperating so far.

I'm not sure what sort of repair bill I am looking at, but I am curious if anyone has any feedback on whether a diminished value claim is possible in this instance. I've done some reading on the forum and am generally familiar with the process, but just wanted thoughts on whether it would make sense in this situation.

    Thanks!

If there are ripples in the aluminum fender then it requires either a real specialist aluminum body guy to do the repair or total replacement. Your best friend now is the Audi dealer.
Once a ripple occurs in metal it is stretched so must be shrunk back to be able to take its original shape. With steel this is done by hammering the repair back and creating a "hump" in the metal. The body guy will hit the hump with a sharp pointed hammer to use up the hump and shrink it back then heat those impact spots red hot and hammer them flat. Difficult to do the same with alloy. How do I know this? My brother in New Zealand used to be a first class panel beater and actually hand made a door for a rare car once from straight metal. Dying tradition for bondo shops.

In Canada a hit and run requires a wait for the police then insurance repair it with the deductible but no increase in insurance premiums.

His fault, fix it the right way and replace, not repair, any damage. Make him pay for the new clear bra as well, and if it's going to hit the Carfax absolutely file a diminished value claim.

Sorry this happened to your car. I got hit in the same location in my condo parking lot a few days after I bought my V8 and it was a hit and run too. The security cam identified the driver too.

There's no way the guy didn't realise he hit your car. The impact would have been significant to cause this much damage.

The rippling looks pretty bad. Even though the damage is on the side but it's part of the clamshell hood so the entire hood needs replacing. The CF side mirror needs replacing as well.

Don't let the guy's insurance get away with just knock and paint over to smooth the ripples. I had a specialist that does dent repair try that and it was near impossible to get the aluminium smooth again.

Claim hood replacement, side mirror, wrap, and diminished value as well. If the insurance company resist, get a lawyer involved.

Please keep us posted Good luck.

    Truly a bummer.... he knew.

In any case; insurance with “all” new; no repaired pieces I see $15K once all said and done plus; the CarFax accident report hit.

A reported accident on the car’s carfax is the “kiss of death”. This is what an R8 salesman told me. Most certainly get a diminished value claim!

Every insurance company will initially deny diminished value. Get a lawyer immediately.

    What a B**ch.

Make sure to keep the pictures for your records for when you come if ever to sell the car. Also take more from different angles the more the better. Before and after pictures + invoices.
This will give a buyer a clear picture as to what happened to your car

    Good Luck.

Disagree. Rather then wasting money on a lawyer I would suggest first step is to contact a diminished value claims specialist. They know the game, how to favorably calculate, present and provide proofs of your DV loss. They do it all for a flat fee of $250-500.
