    Another awesome result - HEX Tuned by VF Engineering - Audi R8 V10 RWS



    Software sales for the Gen2 R8 V10 continue to be wildly consistent,
    with the Standard (540bhp) model and RWS (532bhp) by far being
    the most popular variants - for obvious reasons.


    Here is another recent 2018 Audi R8 V10 RWS dyno plot:



    The gains are of course remarkably similar to the advertised plots on
    our website, and the consistency between every RWS we've had on
    the DynoJet have been withing 3 - 5 wheel horsepower of each other...
    ...which is very impressive.

    In our opinion it seems that with Audi "de-tuning" the lower power
    class models, the cooling efficiency at those power levels seems to
    work tremendously well. And once tuned, they still enjoy the same
    level of consistency & reliability as the R8 V10 PLUS/Huracan LP
    and Performante models!

    I wonder if this is just me or others run into it too - my car seems to cease its pops and crackles at some point randomly and wont resume until again another random point some time later.

    my first thought was some temperature control that audi has built in for when the exhaust gets too hot or something (no clue), wondering if thats normal and will still be present with the VF tune?

    One of the benefits to having had access to soo many of these
    vehicles, as well as the resources for in-house development,
    testing, and validation,... is that we have learned a great deal
    about the calibration strategies that Audi/Lamborghini employs
    to differentiate these models,... and in turn how to reliably and
    safely extract even MORE power!

    That is correct. There are high and low temperature limits in
    relation to the throttle overrun for safety reasons. You may
    have even heard that Audi and Lamborghini have recently
    issued software updates which have further muted the
    "pops & crackles" on some software versions.



    For our HEX Tuning Software - particularly on the Gen2 R8 -
    we lean a little closer to Lamborghini's strategy in order to
    add a bit more personality to the R8.

    If the "pops & bangs" are more than the customer wants or
    was looking for, we have an alternative file that retains the
    factory Audi strategy to keep things a bit more subdued.

    Out of curiosity why is the RWS down 30whp on the top end compared to the tuned v10+? I would expect it to be higher due to drive train loss.

    So once I install the VF tune, i should have less of those "pop-less" moments as you guys raise the upper limit a little bit in terms of temperature tolerance, with regards to throttle overrun?

    Different cars, on different days, on different dynos, under different
    conditions.

    Comparing just the 'Peak Values' when soo many variables can have
    an effect on the final outcome doesn't really offer any real insight.



    That particular R8 V10 PLUS also had an aftermarket exhaust system
    which inflated both the stock and tuned runs.

    The end result is obviously conditional based on those limits, but
    yes
    , our software does modify the throttle overrun strategy to be
    slightly more aggressive.


    I would say that 90% of our customer absolutely LOVE the change
    in acoustics just as much as they appreciate the extra power...
    while the on-out-of-ten remaining are only looking for the
    extra power, and do not want to change the sound at all.

    Understood, thanks for explaining!

    What I wasn't sure about is whether you simply add more fuel dump to add more pops, or if you also change the temperature limit parameters so that the cut-off due to over-temperature occurs less frequently.
