Thank you again so much for putting all of this together. I have yet to take everything apart but have ordered the 3d printed bezel. Do you think there would be room to modify the current bezel design to add a small pocket underneath where I can add my radar?

It’s a pretty solid piece - I would mark it up and cut it out with a dremmel tool.

The emblem fits perfectly in the spot if you are using the old version of the file... I’ve updated to the new file and the new one is PERFECT!! No trimming needed at all and the new angle of the headunit helps as well!

    Re: Aftermarket Stereo installation HowTo

I've just uploaded my one to be 3D printed and the fabricator has come back and said the following (I requested ABS) - what do people think?

Hi there, ABS shrinks a fair bit as it cools so the chances are high that a large print like this will warp badly in ABS – can I suggest printing it in PETG instead?

PETG is a modified form of the plastic used to make soft drinks bottles. It has a higher tensile strength than ABS, is good to 80C and handles UV light well, and it shrinks less during cooling so tends to produce neater, stronger, more accurate prints – making it a better bet for most use cases. I charge the same for PETG.

Print this in black PETG for the same price?

I do not have any trouble printing this in ABS and only an amateur,

If it works for you printing it using PETG, go for it. I am curious how it turns out?

Couple of thoughts, would be, how easily can you sand PETG and how easy is it to paint?

    Cheers,

Did you end up getting your piece reprinted? Same thing happened to me from 3d hubs - smooth side was the backside.

Did you do the 3d build in CAD? Wondering if I can hire someone to mod a pocket for me at the bottom.

There is not much of any space behind the bezel underneath the DIN.

If you look at the original bezel, it bulges out underneath the radio to fit the knobs.

Which radar unit are you planning to fit? Perhaps if we can design another piece to fit underneath the DIN cutout, thickening the bezel to the point it possibly could fit a small piece of electronics?

Hi, I followed the bloke's advice and went PETG
I do not know how easy it will be to sand TBH!
I have wrapped mine and am perfectly happy with it & many thanks for the help making my version
I may get another made from ABS and have it sanded & carbon dipped if I can be bothered but to be honest it looks pretty good as is, if only I had used more premium glossy vinyl, might upgrade that TBH
It was a very very tight fit but I think that's good as it means the cage & head unit are secure. The head unit has a huge screen that sticks right out so has a high moment of movement so wuite a lot of force on the cage etc
    Overall I am v happy!
    Thanks again
