    Depacking Stock V8 Exhaust.

Silly question, has anybody opened up a stock V8 exhaust and taken pictures of the internals. If there are a ton of baffles or packing. I have been thinking of using the stock valves as a straight pipe dump hooked up to a quickly fabbed controller and routing the exhaust normally through the main exhaust with a few baffles removed.

I can scratch build them back up no issue but if I could reroute everything internal to the stock exhaust or even just de-pack the stock exhaust that would be a quicker route to getting the sound that I want without packaging issues and I can just route the straight dump that way.

That's a interesting design. Removal of the secondary cats would be illegal here. I assumed that the car only had a single cat setup and the box was more of a baffled design.

The other guy was right, by the time I ended up cutting the box apart it would be easier for me to just fab out a crossover and be done with the whole project or straight up order a simple bypass from one of the vendors. ~2-3K. I figure at least 8 hours to fab it.

Yes, and that applies to all of the R8 exhausts being offered by the various aftermarket exhaust makers.

Well that kills that idea. Even though I am on smog abatement and it looks like there are no sensors after the second cat.

Part of me wants to buy a used one and just open it up and hack out the 22nd cat and run a straight pipe. It will pass visual and sound a little bit better, and with the new OBDII scans only it will pass with flying colors. Only thing is people want like 600$ for a used one which I thought was ludicrous originally but since they have the cats it makes a bit more sense.

This picture may be clearer for you, I have just had a std V8 exhaust welded the same as a later exhaust to stop that awful rattle first thing in the morning,

Cats should be relatively easy to get out and will make the exhaust noticeable louder, after all, it's straight through without the cats and with the valves open

We'll be needing a sound check when you're done. I'm interested in hearing the difference between the stock exhaust and your gutted version.
