Some interesting information gleaned from Audi annual reports. Where a mis-match between the 'this year' vs 'last year' figures, I have used the last year historic figures as hopefully more accurate.

2006 164
2007 2952
2008 5016
2009 2024 coupe & 77 Spyder
2010 1916 coupe & 1250 Spyder
2011 2039 coupe & 1512 Spyder
2012 1295 coupe & 946 Spyder
2013 1578 coupe & 922 Spyder
2014 1382 coupe & 832 Spyder

Thus gives a total production 2006 to 2014 of some 23,905.
I am surprised at how low the figures are as I always believed the factory had a capacity of about 25 a day but it explains the relative rarity on the roads.

I read somewhere there have been over 60k produced. I highly doubt it though as that is more in line with production numbers of e92 M3's, and I doubt there are as early as many R8's as e92 M3's. Anyone know for sure since we all have read something different as far as production?

The numbers above are directly from the audi.com website where you can download the full annual report for each year. One year does mention a number of R8 LMX in the 300's produced (included in the totals above), but there are no splits by country or V8 / V10.

It would not surprise me that for marketing reasons, Audi have sometimes inflated their figures but would hope the annual accounts are reasonably accurate.

Here's a back door but straight forward approach to estimating total production - with a surprising result. It is adding all U.S. yearly sales and taking the word of Audi R8 Product Manager (Mark Fruechtnicht, c.2013) as reliable when he stated that "about a third" of total R8 world production is sold in the U.S.

Extrapolating 2015 U.S. sales to the upper range (by purposely adding 700+ cars) and reaching ~870 would equate to a grand total of about 7000* cars having been sold in the U.S. through 2015. Allowing for a margin of error around the 33.3% U.S. estimate of total sales (and no MY2006,) simple math based upon adding 2X the U.S. figure to the same U.S. figure results in a total production/sales figure in a projected range of ~20,000 - 25,000 cars - consistent with previous post of 'R8 BKK' and lower than many other projections.

No wonder the R8's are rare.
