There were only R-Tronic to be driven by us. Manual were instructors setup. R-Tronic was quite ok, but the software will be updated for the retail version. The Manual Sport was quite fine, a bit too slow and careful by shifting down a gear. You could only access the lower gear when you don't get higher then 7.300rpm. Thats odd, a break into 8.200rpm would be much better. so you have a better rpm & speed at corners end to shift up, especially Michelin->Bit on the GP Track would benefit from that setup.

Make a long story short: It was great and the R8 engine is more aggressive with double then the RS4 V8 FSI with a single butterfly valve.

Surely the point of these test days is to be shown how the cars can be used by trained instructors and by yourself. Disabling systems seems a bit of a cop out to me. Where's your trust Audi

Only on a few situations I could have needed deactivated ASR, especially at full throttle benetah the curbs out of a corner to the straight line. As a matter of fact, those cars were not really in retail setup. I believe, the ESP/ASR system& suspension was not finally integrated on those cars. They were on the road since 18 Dec. 2006 with 6TKM. That's the reason, why we end-users shouldn't drive without those safety guards.
Quite sure, a few guys there would have been crashed the R8 ... better the *lack of fun* for the better ones :)

BTW, did you heard what happened at Audi Bamberg presentation?

One local journalist crashed their Phantom Black R8...

well even with switched on security systems, if pushed bit too far (with obviously smeary grained runned down tires) it would have not be a prob to get the car to spin around... u had to be very cautious that you break only when on straights, and not to hard... or you get overtakinb by your behind... ;) but was much fun...

I will also be very interested in your thoughts on manual vs r-tronic

Let us know as soon as you can please!

i think its still a matter of taste.. even the former ralley drivers (now audi instructors) are favouring the R tronic.. on race track its not beatable by manual i think.. allthough i am a fanatic about manual shifting.. :D

But it was fun switching gears in sport mode on wheel, allthough the changes did not happen that instantly as I would expect from a button or resp. paddle when pressed...

but i still love that open shift gate... ;) it really requires some manual work to get that thing moving, but its to be preferred imo... but as said, its matter of taste...

RED Monochrome LCD display.. why??
I asked the marketing boss of audi switzerland on this one aswell, he didnt know... but its really a pain to remember which gear you are in, and if you look at the display, you only see a very small number indicating your gear.. when driving towards a corner with 200 km/h and you dont know which gear you are in, and you have to search for the smally number... well hope you get it..

its sh.. or in other words, not so good..
when you have the color display you can have the outside degrees shown with a font size of approx. 36pt or so.. so really very good readable.. but in comparance to that,... the monochrome shows a shift gear in size...20pt (go to word and check the size.. really significant)..

but again, I liked the red display.. again you ask why?.. cause my main focus was to look at the revs and the speedo.. so I didnt even really notice the gears and whatever... its good that that screen is in the background wiht not too much colors.. BUT THIS is only valid for manual R8s...

maybe I should have put some "..." within my comment.. need some more teaching from Paul I guess...

You know the gear out of RPM & Speed, dont you? :D Only one number was really important for me in the display => enough fuel for the next round? ;)
