I have a 2012 v8 6 speed with 12k on it. This summer the ac looses freon very slowly. I changed batteries and put in a new pressure switch in. I have read about that going bad in the forum. Did not work. There has been discussion about leaks and such on the forum and I was wondering if there was one specific spot everybody has found a leak. It holds vacum and the compressor seems fine, because after I get it charged it blows really cold. Any direction and help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rick

The easiest way to find a leak is to have an A/C specialist introduce a dye into the system. I've lost the gas from my 2010 V10 twice now. The first time was from a small hole in one of the condensors and the other was from one of the valves used to fill the system.

Its very difficult to find a slow leak though, mine was the same, after the last ac gas recharge it took 2 weeks to leak out and stop working again. Mechanic vacuum tested the system and could not see or hear any leaks under test but then by chance later heard a slight leak from the front of the car and traced it back to the condensors. I sourced 2 Denso condensors myself online and got the garage to fit them and recharge the system. So far so good.

R8 Gang,

I am in the same boat as you all...

This spring my AC stopped blowing Cold. My shop checked out, vacuum tested, filled and added dye, etc. Could not find the leak. Lasted about 3 months. I put a can of freon in and it lasted 3-4 weeks. So I suspect the leak is getting worse which is good as that should make diagnosing easier.

I just hope its not the evaporator under the dash. That sounds expensive to repair. Taking the R8 in to the shop in the spring to check out the AC again and hopefully they will see the dye trail. And to get new tires.

So when the freon has leaked out have you just driven your R8 without AC or have you added every couple of weeks?

I drove mine without freon untill I could get it over to Ricky to fix. I guess it depends where you live and how warm it is. Here in the UK not having A/C is usually no problem for about 10 months of the year. 😀
