AUdi R8 Custom Luggage

I purchased the 5-piece Audi OEM luggage set. It was ridiculously expensive - I paid about $5k (a discount from the $7,500+ I believe it retailed for)... but it's incredibly beautiful. I ended up getting it to completely match the interior of my car - black leather, red stitching, and carbon fiber. All of the materials are the same materials from the inside of the car - so it's very high quality. Inside, the cases are lined in the alcantara headliner material.

The 5 piece set has two rectangular hard cases that fit upright side by side in the frunk. There are two triangular tote cases that fit on the two sides of the frunk, and then there's a garment bag that lays on top in the middle. So, the 5 pieces use ALL available space in the frunk to the maximum they can. You can easily pack enough in there for a weekend away with two people... probably even 3 or 4 days if it's summer attire (lighter).

As I said, the OEM stuff is very, very expensive, but if you're going to keep the car a long time, and you're planning to use it for some nice trips, I think it's a nice investment. These sets are extremely rare, though. I was lucky enough (years ago now) to snag what I believe was one of the very last NEW sets available. If you can find a set, I'd recommend it.

****, that's a fine looking set. I've been keeping an eye out for a set for my GT Spyder. Is the front space the same for coupes and spyders? It's tough to justify, we have a matched set for our California T and love it. But that's the weekender for us. If I need luggage for the R*, I'm probably on a solo mission somewhere and that's pretty rare.
Thank you - yes, they did an amazing job with it. As I said, pretty much picture the materials from inside your car made into luggage. The leather, carbon fiber, stitching, and alcantara is all a direct match with the interior.

I believe the front space is exactly the same for the coupe and spyder, so you'd have no trouble. Yes, it's hard to justify it - it's completely unnecessary, especially since you can get a very quality set of custom bags made for much less. But I plan to keep the R8 long term, and this was just a splurge for me that makes the car special to use on a trip. Again, if you plan to use it for trips, and you'll keep the car longer term, I highly recommend it. I can't emphasize enough how nicely this luggage was made. It really is like being able to take the interior of your car with you in some luggage!

To give you a slightly better idea how the luggage fits / looks in the frunk, here are some in-car shots. As mentioned, the two larger hard cases stand up-right in the well. Notice that one is larger than the other, so chances are good your significant other is getting the larger of the two cases for her clothing. :) The two triangular tote cases sit in the sides. I've also included a picture of what these look like inside - they can be used for toiletries or pretty much any other smaller items you're packing. And finally the garment bag, which can easily hold a suit or two, a dress or two, dress shirts, or anything you want to hang, just sits nicely in the middle on top.

Lastly, they did think of everything - and you even get a nicely labeled "Laundry" bag for dirty clothing along with several dust covers to keep the luggage protected when it's not in use.

@ezmaass - again thanks for some very helpful pics. Do the two small totes connect to the garment bag or one of the two larger suitcases? Also, did you obtain anything to fill the shelf space behind the seats?
The two small totes have handles on them to carry them, but they don't directly connect or attach to any other piece. You can easily grab them both with one hand - handles are sizeable.

I didn't get anything for the parcel shelf. I keep my $45 Audi first aid kit up there. :) But in all seriousness, the storage space with these pieces is pretty good for a long weekend (or more, if you're careful about how you pack) for two people. I could easily do a week's worth of clothing in there if it's summer attire (t-shirts/polos and shorts) - the wife is more challenging!

I purchased a nice bran new 2 piece set for the "Frunk" (or for behind the seats) in matching colors for my 09 R8. Osman was the supplier and a very patient man dealing with me as I hemmed and hawed over the cost for some time. He sold them at a very fair price given their availability or lack thereof. They are extremely nice pieces and very well made. Unique for sure and something I had to have. The luggage (IMHO) is one of those items that while expensive can add value to a car over other upgrades people consider. The two cases I have are different which was surprising. I thought they would be the same but one is a suit case as you would expect while the other is like an over-sized brief case with places for phones, lap-tops etc. Being a frequent attendee at high end car shows, you'll find fitted luggage in some of the worlds great marques which I feel adds to the panache of the car.
The fitted luggage is definitely one of those nice touches that adds to the panache, as you say - but I also think there's just a nice "romance" to it. These cars were designed to be used, and what better way than a road trip... seeing the sights, enjoying the drive. The fitted luggage, made from the same materials as your car, just helps make it feel that much more special. Is it completely unnecessary? Sure. Does it really help "immerse" you in the R8 experience? I think so. And I think that's why these fitted luggage concepts have been staples of high end cars for decades.

I think Audi actually did an outstanding job with it. Some manufacturers literally just contract a nice bag manufacturer to create some luggage and stamp a brand/logo on it. Audi actually went out of their way to make these pieces feel like they're an extension of the car. The fact that they're made of the same leather, stitching, carbon fiber, and alcantara, just immediately gives you the impression that it's part of the R8... before you even notice the embossed "R8" logo or "Audi Design" text.

Part of the reason why they're so rare, though, is because they were super expensive. The 5-piece set was $7,500 - for the black with white stitching. If you wanted to change the leather and stitching, the price went up. Aside from price, the other reason they're now extremely rare is that they were all made to order. They weren't simply made and stocked in large quantities. Each set was custom made, and delivery time was 4 - 6 months. See below listing from an Audi dealer that still has a now-defunct listing for it.

As Howie said, from time to time, you may see a set listed for sale. But they're becoming increasingly difficult to come across. I'm guessing very, very few sets were probably ever made, so if you're looking for one, I'd snatch up any set that comes along. You won't be disappointed.

Yes, the briefcase is definitely a bit thinner (depth-wise) compared to the suitcase. Other dimensions (width and height) are the same.

Luggage set SOLD to one very lucky customer
And another one gone! If someone didn't snag this, I was seriously considering buying it just to resell it. :) The price was so far below market (I know the cream color isn't for everyone, and most have a black interior)... but no less, someone got a ridiculously good deal! Congrats to the lucky buyer.

Tried to justify the purchase to her who must be obeyed, but as she pointed out " You already have 2 sets of the leather luggage and a set of fitted luggage from the RS6". What a lovely set this was, a very lucky buyer indeed.
"Her Who Must be Obeyed" - love it :)
