I have a 2014 R8 V8 with front plate delete and was told I would have to replace the whole front grill to put a plate on. Is it possible just to replace just the plate delete insert (this is how its worked one every other Audi I've owned)? If so, would you consider selling the plate insert separately?
My older 2014 came with a front plate piece and I wanted to put on the front plate "delete" piece.
You CAN do it. The bumper comes off, you remove the grill. Then, you have to flip it over and grind off the tabs that were "melted" - that filler piece then pops off.
You can then put the new piece on and have to melt the tabs down. The only problem I can see is if there is not enough tab material to pop through the actual grill. You have to have enough material sticking out in order to melt the plastic. Sort of hard to explain but if you see the back of the grill and how the stock piece is held in, it would make sense.
I don't think if you bought a used one, there would be enough material left to put it back in, melt the tabs, and have it stay on securely.
When you buy a new filler piece, the tabs that stick through are long and easily melted in place.
