OK folks. This car is becoming useless in Los Angeles. After a year with it, 6 months ago I broke 130mph in a 35mph zone, and 150mph+ on a trip. That was it, twice in one long year.

I feel like a caged animal. Going to a track to open it up just doesn't give me that instant "I need it now" feeling. Maybe I'm just too scared to get in trouble now. Just too many cops everywhere it seems.

I don't know what else to say. I'm sure there are more that feel like me throughout the world.

Lightning, We still have it good.Just a short drive to Angeles Crest, time it right for the coppers.it's just a bad city like all cities.Give me the Alps,or Austria for sure but those are Far,Far away, even for the Germans who make the car !! You gotta feel so sorry for the Germans.Sure they have the Autobomb but even Davey Dee could drive the BAHN.Our cars were meant to be slid around corners. While in Stuttgart recently, I had a need for speed in some corners and I had to drive two 'n a half hours to find a twisty section.BUT it was the healthiest dose of multiple hairpin curves that I ever saw.WELL worth the drive. But that was it.I googled all of the Stuttgart areas and couldn't find ANY descent stretches of uninterrupted twisty sections exept for the one.And the place is HEAVILY monitered on weekends because it is SO popular (i forgot the name of town below the twisties,,But it's below the Baggersea) I went there on a weekday and had the place all to myself and my BMW Boxer Cup .Europe does'nt just envy Calis' shitty weather but also our roads. :) :) :)

You must be more pissed off in AZ than we are in LA. LA doesnt even have any open roads, so we kinda planned for this. But AZ has awesome wide open roads, and you must be more pissed off with all those traps.

Keep hope alive. One day we'll be free to do 150 as we wish (but probably not).

If you have the time for a few days out of town, there's thousands of miles of 2 lane blacktop in the West with no one on it. Head north on US 95, or 93 or any of a ton of roads. I just got back from a 4200 mile road trip thru 8 Western states, some on 2 lane and some on 4. In central Wyoming, I drove for over 2 hours in I-15 without seeing another person, let alone vehicle. Lots of antelope here and there but thats ALL! Head out and blow the cobwebs out!

If you're not paying attention and happen to rip by one of these parked on the side of the road, all you can do is smile and give them the one finger salute! It makes for an interesting conversation piece when the citation arrives in the mail 10 days later.

Even though my car came with installed K40 Radar/Lasar I hardwired in an escort 9500ix. Finds all those pesky red light cams and speed cams, Just need to keep it up to date with downloads

R84ME, HOLY **** man. I didn't know they have that in AZ. I was actually going to take a drive to Phoenix. Good thing you mentioned this, thanks.

RS4Cab, I'll take your recommendations on the K40 Radar/Lasar.

willyjp, sounds like you had some fun. I drove from LA to Yosemite for a few days. Nothing like what you did. Driving through Wyoming for 2 hours with no cars on it? That's a dream man.

Yeah, I'm considering the 9500xi too. I can't stand the thought of the average install chop shop disassembling the car to the point MT did to hard wire his radar in. MT did an EXCELLENT job though, I just don't have the confidence I could get everything back together again.

DPS repositions the radar vans around every few hours so you'll be relying on your radar detection capability for those - and AZ is using them on ALL state highways now. Not safe anywhere.

No, It's the Escort 9500ix you need for speed/red light cams. Escort has a large database of their locations and is constantly updated. I usually hate having a detector bouncing around my windshield and a cord hanging, But the R8 was very easy to hardwire. Since our cars are so low I mounted out of the way on the passenger visor. Then we have our fuse box right under the passenger side floor mat was so was very simple to tuck wire into trim and run to box. Best way I have found to drive very fast is on outings with my car club, Find a nice long stretch of highway and have someone go ahead and scout the road and we then use walkie talkies to communicate. Best I have done so far was just under 150mph, Could feel the car wanted to keep going but was still in break in period.

The I -10 and I- 19 near Tuscon are bad , really bad, for Photo Enforcement Zones. At least they do warn you with signs though. But the signs are easy to miss at NITE.

All AZ speed cams are set to cite at 11 mph over the speed limit. In Phoenix, we know where they are (except the radar vans). The best strategy is to set the cruise at 9 over and forget about it.

I think you are right @ 11 miles over. But I play it safe and set at 5 Mi. over like in California.I always thought 5 over in Cali. was acceptable. Am I wrong? :) Oversized tires on the truck (veh. caught speeding in AZ.) doesn't help matters at all !! Speedo is 10 mi off. As we say... If you want to play , you gotta PAY ! :D
