I should have said “richest” instead of “successful”. I know a lot of trust fund guys and they are not sportsncar guys in general.
I think half of the desire (more or less) is based on knowing you can if you want to... Once that question is answered, the real desires become clarified.

Expertranch that is a very well put comment. I've never been able to think that clearly about my desire for material things but I do know that I don't really want much else at this point. My desire for "stuff" has really decreased and my desire for simplicity increased greatly. Appreciate that wisdom.
My desire for "stuff" has also decreased significantly in the last several years. I don't know if it's age or just that I've pretty much purchased most things I really wanted. I mean there are some things I would still enjoy (the helicopter for example), but when I think about it for more than 2 minutes, I know in my heart, it would sit more than it's used. It would just be another toy in the corner.

The things I value the most now (not that I didn't value before, but just they are WAY more valuable now) are good friends. I don't mean fun friends (though that is nice) I mean friends that know you backward and forward, warts and all and still love you. Like a wife, only different in that there isn't NEARLY the emotional pain when in disagreement.

I feel there is nothing on this planet more valuable to me that a deep, meaningful conversation, especially if during that conversation we see eye to eye and learn something from each other.

Sigh... my best friend died a few years ago in a motorcycle accident. He was reckless, made a fatal assumption that the oncoming driver 1. saw him and 2. would use a blinker if turning. He left a wife and son. The guy who hit him was an illegal alien (undocumented ) and had no insurance. Fortunately his wife remarried and is happy.

Great point. It really comes down to your priorities:

  • Miata/S2000 - Great car for a track, and mostly just for that
  • Lamborghini - You want to make a statement and have a car that sounds incredible
  • Ferrari - Same as above
  • Mclaren - You also want to make a statement, but care less about sound and more about HP
  • R8 - You don't want to make as much of a statement, and want to have a great sounding V10
  • Porsches - You love reliability and value (going up) from your car

I’m going to stick my neck out a bit and say that my R8, at least where I live, may very well make as much of a “statement” as many Ferraris, if not Lambos which are very aggressive in their design.

I mean, the R8, particularly Gen 2 refresh, is a pretty darn rare car.

Great point. It really comes down to your priorities:

  • Miata/S2000 - Great car for a track and hair dressers
  • Lamborghini - You want to make a statement and have a car that sounds incredible
  • Ferrari - Pinnacle of automotive design/function/beauty
  • Mclaren - You also want to make a statement, but enjoy savage depreciation and blown engines
  • R8 - You don't want to make as much of a statement, and want to have a great sounding V10
  • Porsches - You love Volkswagen Beetles
Fixed that for you.

I'm a Porsche fanboy too.

Most women DGAF if it's a Huracan or an R8. Or barely know the difference. They see both in person. Many women have come up to me admiring my car and wanting to sit in it. When they get up i notice a little damp spot on my seat. Regardless if it's hot out. Some in fact who know cars have told me that they prefer my car over a Huracan and wish to buy one.

3 girls on IG have reached out to me via PM asking me a ton of questions about my car. Two of them ended up buying it. Both were fashion models, one from NY and another from Cali. I had to block one bc she was getting wayyy toooo personal even after I told her I was married.

So yea that's enough proof for me that my R8 is like a fishermans net.

Yeah, I have fashion models hitting on me all of the time when I'm driving my R8..............

...........and then I wake up
lol. They start with car questions then slowly progress to personal ones. Guess that was their “in.”

Also I wanted to mention that I was about to pull trigger on a Huracan until my friend who worked at the Lambo dealer told me in strict confidence to check out the R8. Bc it’s the same car just w diff body panels and minor mechanical differences. And so I did. And saved myself $50k (back in Nov 2020). And looking back I still don’t regret my decision.

I love the styling of the Huracan don’t get me wrong. It’s a gorgeous car and I like it even more than the Aventador. I think it’s a better car than it’s big brother tbh.

Who knows what kind of power plants Ferrari, a Lambo and the others will be putting in their cars in 2027. (I hope not fully electric ones). Even if they will put in a V8 TT with a secondary electric motor then that’s the most I will go. But def not 100% electric. If those two manufacturers go all electric then I will buy a brand new Porsche Turbo S. Or whatever it’s equivalent is by 2027.

I really don’t want to make a lateral move with my next car and it has to tick all of the same boxes the R8 did for me. Worst case if no new car out there tickles my fancy in 5 or so years from now. Then I will just buy a used V12 Ferrari (if the price isn’t astronomical).

If the price for a used V12 engine car is sky-high then I will just buy the fastest production model 2 seater Porsche available at that time.

it’s actually depressing that we have to talk about the unknown here. Whereas just 5 years ago we could be confident that a newer V10/ V12 car will be available for us to upgrade to when we were ready to buy.

Life is short and you can't take it with you when you go. Enjoy it while you can
I figure better I spend it than the guy my wife is with after I die. Also I have it so my cars get sold and money put into my trust since I also don't want him driving my car

Drive through Tribeca, Meat Packing District, Flatiron, Soho, etc in the evening and you'll have all sorts of fatherless hotties interested. Without fail.

^ I live in the Chicago area, and our equivalent of that is a place called The Viagra Triangle. Look it up when you get the chance.

Of course, I likely wouldn't drive my R8 around Chicago in the evening for fear of being carjacked!
