As per title I'm hoping to buy my first R8!
It will be a 2007/2008 V8 due to my budget, I'd there anything in particular I should look out for? The car will be a Manual transmission with around 35k miles on it (I'm in the UK)

Thanks in advance chaps

mag ride leaking, the clutch wear, rust, CV joints clicking, brake disc wear, the master cylinder :D . engines are pretty solid and its usually just small things that go wrong and become a big pain in the ass lol

Ahh ok just the normal things then, I'm a ex mechanic so no bother with a few checks. The car is from an approved Audi dealer and comes with a Audi 12month warranty too.

When you say rust do you mean corrosion? Thought they were aluminium? Any particular places to look at?

Thanks for the response :)

Hi

Defo check the mag ride as r8child suggests. Also worth checking the a/c is working as the pressure switches do seem to fail too.

Very solid car indeed. I have 08 V8 with similar miles to what your looking for and I love the car.

The 12 month warranty is a mega plus point too.

Sorry to steer this slightly off topic (but the OP might find the info useful). Where do R8 owners in the Northwest go for R8 servicing / general work?

I bought a really nice condition 09 R8 with 35k miles in Ibis white 5 weeks ago. Love the car.

Anyone tried Awesome in Warrington?

I've had Porsche for the last 7 years and made good use of superb service from Unitieleven in Warrington and Sports and Classic in Knutsford. One thing I've noticed with the R8 ownership so far is that a) no UK based forums and b) no specialists.

People on this forum are helpful though.

Hi

I'm in Warrington and I haven't come across Awesome. Where are they based?

I use G T Cars in Appleton. John is extremely knowledgeable and a real car enthusiast. He works on all kinds of high end cars. I used him earlier this year for an oil leak and he was excellent.

I know Nedzilla and Paul B on here have used David Paul Of Warrington (on Woolston Grange) and I think they were happy with him (albeit I have found him to be a miserable bugger, but his work does seems sound).

It seems there are quite a few of us in the Cheshire area now, so I might try to arrange a gathering at some point.

Hello,
Don't forget to ask the dealer to take off the plastic storage space cover in order to expose the view like this photo and then check any crack as shown for those models before 2010. frunk.jpg 2009 audi B(V8).jpg

A few quick questions for you chaps:-

-Does the 2007 navigation plus do full post code search?
-What size SD cards do they take?
-Can the engine bay lights be retrofitted

32gb i think is max if thats what you mean?
someone like ricky or audi oem should be able to tell you if the socket is in the wiring loom as standard.

I'm really concerned about these cracks I've seen on here at the top of the springs. It's that bad I'm pushing towards an M4 :-/ Any info if this a common issue or not? Seams from previous posts Audi don't want to know about it either.

No! With a 2007 - 2009 you cannot use a SDHC card - you have to use normal capacity so restricted to 2 or 4 GB. I use 2 and its a pain.

That depends! Let me go back a step....to 2007.

The standard equipment on the V8 in 2006/7/8 was pretty basic. The car came standard with an RNS-E radio /single CD which was MP3 compatible and two SD card slots.

"Sat Nav System Plus" was a £1800 option - it's a DVD based system; it also has CD/mp3 capability but you cannot use the sat-nav and play CDs at the same time, which leads to the popular option of the 6-CD changer. Unfortunately this is not mp3 compatible, so you are left only with the 2 x SD card slots if you want to play mp3.

My 2009 has an aux-in under the arm rest but I don't think this was an option in 2007; I would need other forum members to confirm.

If you want the 2006 year R8 PDF brochure with all the list prices and options, drop me a PM with your e-mail and I'll send it through.

Just checked the previous Mot reports online and the last one had an advisory for slight leak on front shock, luckily I contacted the Audi dealer that's looked after the car from new and they have confirmed and emailed me the receipt of both front shocks being replaced under warranty.
:)

Really looking forward to collecting the car!
