Hahaha. I will watch This delivery I will imagine it was me hahaha. This was one of my questions. I have been searching and researching about a year maybe less. And at one point I’m on the same 3 sites how does one search ?????? I never heard of toybarn!!!! It’s almost hit or miss. I just drove a white one that was for sale at cosmo motors but sold to Audi winnington de so I drove there to look at a) color white was not high on my list and drive it and I thought about it and said it wasn’t too bad!!! I called them back and there’s a deposit on it lol. Then the same on another and now Rosner!!! Maybe the R8 gods are trying to tell me something hahahah. Found another one in Chicago but not heard back from them after a couple texts.

Seems like a high demand right now.. If you see a great deal... put down a refundable deposit, get an inspection done by an R8 mechanic, not just an audi mechanic. If it is good, buy it, if not, let it go, collect your deposit and continue.. However, I am glad you didn't act on mine! ha hah hahahh

I'm in San Diego, CA.. it is in Vero Beach, FL (the West Palm Beach of West Palm Beach).... Yes, I got quotes on my own (about 15 of them) and they were all about $2500 to ship it (open truck)... Mike got me enclosed from his guy (they use all the time) for $1200! He originally quoted me $1500, but surprised me after I wired the money with a $300 deduction... I pay the shippers when they get here... to my door!

Even my wife is excited and she didn't even want me to get this initially because she doesn't want people to know we have "money" ha hah haha. Net worth is relative! There is always someone who has more than you and always those who have less. But I can't even share with my sister or her sister, because they already think we're "rich" and have animosity about it (I know weird.. when I had nothing, I loved to see other succeed).. trust me we are not rich (at least not in my opinion)... I know rich guys, I"m not one. If I was rich, I'd probably have gotten a Porsche 918

I was telling my wife, I haven't been this excited about anything for a very long time. At 56 yrs old, and having seen a lot and one a lot.. not much gets me excited and nothing in the last 20 years has gotten me this excited. ha hah haha The last time I was this excited was when I hit a personal best bench press of 512 lbs! at 220 lbs. Then tore my pec about 3 months later and have never gotten more than 405 lbs since. (currently 325 lbs. :-( ) ... Oh which reminds me, I need to call my insurance agent right now!

Ok, I have $70k-$90k to spend for an R8... I'm not a racer guy or really a car guy. I just love the way they look and like that they are not on every block.

1. Don't want pre- subframe problem car. So I'm guessing that's 2011+ (would like 2014-15) ? Correct me if I'm wrong.
2. Would like sub 40k miles (but not obsessed).
3. Automatic transmission
4. Prefer V10
5. Would like a coup... I generally like convertibles, but not so much the R8 spyder.
6. Prefer darker colors.. for sure do not want red exterior or interior. I suppose if the exterior was red and it was too good to pass up, I could vinyl wrap it.

Anyway, I'm looking to buy in the next two weeks, so if you know someone, please let me know. I'm already looking on AutoTrader, GarGurus...etc.

Well, first of all the mechanic I found is local.. well Orange County (Corona). And it's a bit of a miracle. I was getting overwhelmed with the choices, the prices are better on older ones, and they look very similar to older gen 1 and I don't like Gen 2 looks... And I don't know the first thing about them other than to look for the 2011 and newer sub frame crack...
I just realized, I'm probably going to buy a lemon or something because I'm so focused on the outside of the car and the thing that are just taste... So I decided I needed help. I called a local European Car Mechanics shop and asked them if they had any R8 specialists who would be interested in coming to look at cars with me and I'd pay them to evaluate the car mechanically. They didn't (odd since it was a European shop).. but just as the receptionist was about to hang up, the owner, who had been listening, hopped on the call and gave me a number to call. I called him and he was an absolute Godsend (literally). Not only did he search for r8's for me to look at... he got me a drive (hard to do these days) in a V8 and V10 and if I want to try a supercharged or turbo charged one, he thinks he can arrange it.

Anyway, any car I liked, I would email him the link, he would call and talk to the mechanic for the car and give me a no way, worth investigating or a yeah, this is great.

I ended up finding one on my own and set up an inspection with him and a local mechanic and they did it face time. But as he has a race shop and owns 3 R8's himself.. he knows what to look for. He thought the one I found was the cleanest he'd ever seen... interestingly, the shipping guy told the dealer the same thing... this is the cleanest R8 I've even hauled and he hauls high end sports cars every day, including R8's.

So that's how it happend. I am buying a warranty and he'll be doing any work that needs to be done including modifications. I'd give you his name, but I need to ask him first as I don't know if he wants to do that much work again. He did A LOT for me.

Thank you! I’d love to get connected with your mechanic if he is willing. I have a very similar outlook as you. I’m mainly driven by the aesthetics of the Gen 1. I’ve decided to stay away from the r tronics, which limits my universe of cars significantly. As you probably know, there were only 349 s tronic V8 coupes made for the North American market. Of those, how many black/black or silver/black versions can there be with under 50k miles (plus, my wife is insistent on a backup camera to look out for the kids)? I’ve expanded to V10s. I’ve still only driven the V8, which was enough of a thrill for me and great compared to the 911 4 I tested earlier in the summer (and by testing, I mean renting on Turo and driving 250-350 miles over a couple of day, which is the only way to really get to know a car—in both cases the verdict became clear driving back on the freeway to Costa Mesa).

Based on your other post, we’ll have to agree to disagree about the sound of the V8 versus V10. I love the deeper hum of the V8 (more like a Ferrari or Porsche) versus the V10, which sounds like a Lambo/Kawasaki motorcycle. I think a lot of people use a Cristo exhaust to make the higher pitched sound...

I just spoke with Matt and after convincing him that a lot of people NEED his help... he's going to now offer 3 different buyers service packages...

Package #1 (Pre-Inspection) - He arranges an pre-inspection of the car, either via facetime between him a local mechanic (dealer mechanic) or he will arrange the inspection with a local R8 specialist. Price $399

Package #2 (Pre-Deposit or Pre-Inspection Inspection) - All of package #1, plus he will check out cars you find and the dealers (he's connected to an Audi database so he can get all the info on a car that they might not be sharing) before any of the inspection stuff is set in motion which usually will require you to make a deposit.. Price $599

Package #3 (Full Service) – All of package #1 and #2, plus he will actively seek out cars for you and provide you at least 2 cars a week for you to review, that have already been pre-screened (Package #2) and would be ready for deposit if the you liked it and then he would perform the actual inspection (Package #1).. the difference between Full Service and Package #2 is he is actively seeking cars for you AND you have access to cars you might not find on the market. $799

Also, IF you choose him for these services, he will give you 10% his cost on upgrades or the amount of the service whichever is greater.

When you think about what you have to lose if you get it wrong... any of these packages will give you peace of mind you simply cannot get unless you are a mechanic or know a LOT about Audi R8's and can perform all that stuff yourself. I know it made my decision so easy and allowed me to focus on what look I wanted and freed me from the angst of trying to avoid a financial wreck. Sleeping like a baby the whole time... except for after I actually made the purchase, I am now so jacked I can't wait to get my car!!!

Either or.. he's easy. I'd probably wait because you may want to do package #2.. where he checks out cars you find. or #3 where he finds cars for you. Because if you keep finding duds and pay $399 a pop, it won't make sense, I'd at least do Package #2 so he can check it before you even do an inspection or Package #3 where it's an ongoing thing until you find the car you want. The guy knows his stuff.

So I found another car (potentially) in the car fax it says the ac compressor was just replaced in 10/2020... would you assume that’s a good thing and I should not have to worry about another compressor failing since it was just replaced????


Also it has a bunch of what looks like rock chips on the the front hood.... left center and a bunch on the right. Ugh. Can you negotiate this down further

I found another r8 looks pretty good some mild wear on the hood could be rock chip who knows but I was able to source the car fax and it says in 10/2020 they replaced the AC compressor .... no I guess you would think that’s good it’s new and I hopefully don’t have to worry about it but when I looked where it was done it said it was done a Mark Wahlberg Chevrolet!!! Huh???? Shouldn’t that have been done by a certified r8 Audi tech? Doesn’t that require engine out of car? I think I would feel better if it were done a speed shop that works on these cars versus a Chevy dealer.
I called them and they confirmed they did it and I asked who paid was it under a fidelity warranty and he said looks like the dealership paid for it before they sold it. But now it’s at a Land Rover dealer. Am I just confused? I was under the impression it was traded in from the salesman and Land Rover. Hmmmmm seems strange that it was

1) Audi Indianapolis in September
2) at a Chevy dealer in October with significant
Work done to it and
3) now in a Land Rover dealer in IL?

Any thoughts.

Man, just do the deal with Matt... all these questions... I am not an expert, but he is.. and he wants to help you. Every day you can know that he is looking for you (if you go full service like I did) or if you go #2... all the cars you send to him, he checks out (calls the dealer on your behalf...etc)... I mean you start looking forward to your calls with him each day because you get to just focus on what you can understand.. how it looks! ha hahahah
