After 9700 miles, it looks like the tires are down to 3-4mm. I was looking at an A/S tire because I use the R8 as a daily driver ... even in the winter!

Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position
- 91W, 96W

Two questions:

1) I'm OK with the speed rating being lower then what Audi recommends, but what are your opinions about the lower load rating (96 -vs- 100)???

2) I have never had any concerns in the past with using a discount tire shop to order/mount the new tires (Sam's, Costco, America's Tire). Should I worry about it with the R8???

As long as you're not running over 150 mph you should be good.

The discount shop may have issues holding onto the rear rims. So far the only place I've been able to find that has a machine that can handle the wider rims locally is a Porsche dealer. Even the Audi dealership I go to had to use the Porsche shop for another customer's R8. (They knew I was getting it done elsewhere and asked me.)

Actually, I'd think it's more important to keep to the speed rating and not worry about the load rating (there's a few posts about that somewhere).
