Hi All,

I have been following this forum for quite some time now and thought i join in and be part of this community. I am also a proud owner of a R8 in Ice Silver having converted from the Porsche 997 C4S. I am in the UK.

I would just like to echoe the majority and say that this car is phenomenal and am very happy with it.

anyway, I had a couple of specific questions which I hoped that some of you might be able to help so here goes...

1. Over the weekend, I got a puncture in my front right hand tyre - (a bloody nail! - not happy). This morning i dropped off my car at the Audi R8 service shop and just recieved a call saying that they were unable to find the Pirelli match of tyre but could find Mitchellin version of the same tyre (apparently there is a backordfer of the pirellis)- furthermore I would face having to replace the pair because of something to do with different treads etc etc.

On this I wanted to ask you guys whether you had any advice/experience on whether the tyres must be Pirelli or could the Mitchellins do the job instead? The specs of these 19's are exactly the same as the Pirelli's (in size etc apparently)

any views/advice would be most welcome....

2. I have been told by the same Audi specialist (south of England), that there is a software upgrade that they need to do but it would take 2-3 days and i would need to book the car in at some point - just wondered if any of you have had this done to your car or whether you know of this software upgrade. (i think its an upgrade to the engine management system).

thanks all and look forward to your replies....

Personally I'd never want to run with anything other than matching tyres across the whole car - really poor that they can't supply the oem tyres, it's not like tyre damage is a rarity.
