Just watched the latest Motorweek (think Top Gear with a lobotomy) and their review of a US R-tronic R8. They mention "launch control" while listing features and then during the footage of their quarter mile test, the R8 accelerates gently from a stop before finally rushing forward (at 3000rpm, they say) ending in a 13.1 sec quarter mile. (They also warn against buying R-tronic due to it's unpredictable shifts - an obvious reference to the useless automatic mode, although it's not clarified.)
Since Motorweek typically gets the poorest acceleration times, they may very well have a policy against any brake-torquing / clutch drops or launch control use. On the otherhand, the US has been left out of launch control functionality in the past (BMW's for example), SO my question for any US R-tronics out there is:
Do we have it?
What RPM does it function at?
Is that sufficient to break all 4 tires loose and not bog the motor?

The answer is in a thread on this site it was posted about 2 weeks ago. I'll try to find it and edit this post.
O.K. here it is:

Yup. Use the launch control function.

1. Disable ASR and ESP by holding the Button down for more than 2 seconds.
2. Select 1st gear.
3. Put your foot on the brake.
4. Floor the Gas pedal.
5....

Let us know how it works....too much snow here for me to test!!
