So, as I crossed 90k miles on my way to 100k very soon I've really been pondering how long this car will last and if I'm the right owner to continue to own the car.
I looked at autotrader for Audi A8 cars from 2014 to 2016 that have the same V8 engine as my car and was very surprised to not find very many high mileage examples. Why???
Is it that these engines don't last much more than 100k or 150k? Is it thst once they get to that mileage the cars sold are at cheap dealers who don't pay for autotrader? Are they owned, at those high mileage, by guys who do their own work and keep them long term? Or is it just that the V8 engine doesn't last much longer than 100k or 125k?
I can understand that there are not a lot of R8's with those high mileage. Most r8 owners don't take these things on the road trips I do and few use it as a commuter for an hour each way each day. But shouldn't there be a nber of high mileage Audis thst used the same engine?
I know some people will respond by saying it should have no problem going to 200k miles. But where is the proof? Why?
Also, I'm concerned about the engine but perhaps I'm looking in the wrong direction. What other highbdollar value fixes should I be concerned about? Transmission? Other components? Rust? What's the killer for high mileage cars where the fix costs more than the worth of the car? I've ruled out blinker fluid, but im genuinely curious what I need to be thinking about/budgeting for.
