[R8 Spyder]

All,

ran into issues with the soft top on my R8 Spyder today. Ran the car top-down but when trying to close the top I just get the error message "Soft top cannot be used".

The battery is only a year old, cant see the battery issue.

Operating the button, nothing happens and the rear window operates well. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this??

If you have a scan tool or VCDS, the first step is probably to get a code to see what's going on. If you don't hear any motors whirring or anything "trying" to work, perhaps it's something as simple as a fuse? Or, given the error stating "cannot be used" (versus more explicitly that something is wrong) perhaps it's something like a sensor that's indicating it's not safe to use the top - like when you're traveling too fast to operate in motion. Not sure - but grabbing a code might be the best place to start.

Thank you! I don't have a scan tool or VCDS, can't hear any motors, no error message whilst driving only when parked and trying to close the roof the error message appears. I will check the fuse..

My guess is that it's a microswitch that in not in the correct position to allow the top to be operated. VCDS should allow these microswitches to be monitored, but I haven't done it.

Make sure rear engine cover is closed.

There is a manual closure procedure that you can find in the manual but it is not simple.

Really! I will have to find out. I have no sound from the motor trying to close and can not even put it in to service mode.
