This is amazing. You are coming along quicker than I thought you would. Love the pics and all the details. Keep up the good work 👍
Thank you for the optimism. I sometimes just sit and stare at things, think, feel overwhelmed, and wonder what is next. I try to nibble at things an hour a day, or several a week. The desire for the "next picture" is kinda what motivates me. Many small parts have come in the mail, but I just try to put those in boxes in the corner and keep plugging away to show folks the intricacies of this fine machine as it is dismantled. I have to take breaks to look through other parts of the forum where things are shiny and clean just for motivation.

Thanks for the support!

Love the crocs! 👌
Me too. I keep thinking I will need a new pair soon, but they keep going! My garage is attached to the house, so naturally after a day of wearing steel toes, these are my go-to shoes... even in the garage.

You are making me think... I think the entire disassembly process has been done wearing these.

One of the first things I did after getting the car aired out and into the garage was to remove the engine bay decorative covers. Apparently I never got a picture of the slight mess in there... so here goes.
The ECU's might look bad, but as far as I know they are sealed. We will find out soon enough. If anyone has a network of people who might fix circuit boards/ECU's, please let me know.

sorry if it is a little blurry... just showing the mess

Love the photos. I've enjoyed them half as much as searching te 6000 images of Rosanne that are on Getty images.

Jeremy, I hope you keep an excel file with all the costs. From a financial standpoint, this beautifully insane project fascinates me. I'm a finance guy and always think in numbers.

Ahhh, images of Rosanne, not sure what you mean there, but if it was funny, someone else will have to place a little smiley laughing emoticon on your post. (help me fellows...)

Yes. I do have a spreadsheet on excel, and haven't touched it for a couple of weeks, but have a few receipts to add. Thank you for reminding me.

The irony today is there are flooded streets in our town (2nd time in two years) due to a lot of rain, so I gave the Cooper a little chassis bath through them (very slow) on the way home today. Probably better that your car is in TN or Kentucky or where ever, because it looks like north of here is getting sleet and ice on top of the downpours at 33 degrees.

I got in the driveway after looking at all of the water, opened the garage and said out loud "speaking of flooding."

Have fun, where ever you are my friend... Thanks for your financial "interest".

Just read through the whole of the thread and have to take my hat off to you sir, for attempting such a massive project.

I sincerely hope that once you're all done (however long that takes) the car turns out the way you want it to.
Even if it doesn't though you'll be an R8 expert! And hopefully will have made some great memories with your family and enjoyed the whole experience, which will have made it all worthwhile.

How did your mag rides bear the salt? Curious how much of an effect does it have on R8 shocks.
We will see. I have you folks on my option list. But that is WAY down the road. Keep pinging here to remind me and I will take some pix when I get to them. Should be able to get rear shock pix later this week.
Thanks,

JB

10,000 thanks! The more I dig into it, the more massive it looks! But... never a dull moment.

Hi

If the body is not completely emptied and no cleaning is carried out with
a special cleaning additive, the interior stinks like Everglades even after
years.

Especially when it's very humid outside.

Tom
"stinks like the Everglades". Well, Tom, what if I like the smell of the Everglades :) !

Just kidding of course. The only thing that really reeks yet is the stock seats, which are in my screened in patio getting a little air for a while before I figures out what to do with them, because they are NOT going back in the car. I have been using a few "special additives", and will be testing others over time. So far, the carpets are doing great!

Thanks Tom!

I only had a little time tonight, so I took on the massive project (catch my sarcasm if you will) of removing the four bolts that hold in the airbox. Here are a few pix.

The first is what the trans looks like underneath.

The second is the dried crud from the sideblade intake going into the left side of the airbox. This is why it bothers me to no end when id10ts think it is a good idea to try to start a flood car (before they buy it). Thankfully my battery was toast, and there was no chance at that. I have hope for a good engine after a flush.

The third is a fuzzy look in past the throttle bodies.
It doesn't look that bad, but I am certain water got in, so that is why I am getting to it.

Goals by the end of the week:
*rear bumper off
*exhaust off
*plugs out
*assess what should come off next
Remember, I need to replace sump cover (oil pan) before I can flush anything through it.
