Nagengast, can you explain the link between you and secret weapon?

Forgive me for my caution but it's a massive amount of money and I don't get the connection between a polish company and a brazilian one.

No worries at all! I'm not collecting any money and for what it is worth, it is me - Raf, not Nagengast that is involved with Secret Weapon. I also own a supercar club called PHXDriven down here in Arizona and sell aftermarket warranties for Autrella, for a total clarity! :)

As I pointed out early in this thread - when traveling to Sao Paulo last year, I contacted Secret Weapon to see if they are around for me to see the shop and meet the team, because I was a big fan of their work. They were super welcoming and introduced me to everyone. This year I went back to visit the team and happened to be when they delivered the first Huracan STO exhaust to their customer, who invited me for the first drive. I got to take some videos of the new exhaust that later went viral on the internet via Lambo Jesus (who is also a friend of mine).

Here is the shop and the STO that received the first Secret Weapon exhaust system installed (without removing the engine).

Ahhh, sorry for the “mistrust”. I didn’t realise you were in the states. Can I assume that you distribute for nagengast over the pond?

sorry, I’m new to R8s and so was not familiar, plus this is a predominantly U.S. forum.
That is correct! Should Secret Weapon drastically expand and require my help, I may have to get a new user account so the two companies don't mix ;)

And I believe you emailed me with a few questions - getting the answers for you now.

Stitched up more videos I had from my visit to Secret Weapon and posted from PHXDriven account:

What do you guys think of this?

Valvetronic designs seem to be trying the same thing but it’s not quite the same!
Yeah it's definitely not the same. They have not cracked the code yet like Secret. With the Secret exhaust the dominant frequency is twice as high. The dominant frequency of Secret can only be heard as an overtone on the Valvetronic exhaust. It's probably just equal length headers with an x-pipe, basic stuff. Barely changes anything on the note unlike Secret exhaust which doubles the dominant frequency. And Valvetronic are selling it as if it's something revolutionary xD "you absolutely need this for your R8" yet if you do a simple muffler delete on your R8 it's gonna sound pretty much the same. If you really wanna change the sound substantially you need an unequal length exhaust.

When they go through the headers they talk about special extra length runners to equalize the exhaust. They also mention the degree of overlap of the x pipe being crucial. I think what they are lacking is stepping in the headers to increase the number of reflections.

I was looking back at my deliberations thinking the lengths must be tuned for a certain rev range because the timing between pulses changes with engine speed - I think my theory is muddled as it occurred to me that the speed of the pulses is the speed of sound not the speed of the gas. It will vary with exhaust gas temp and pressure but I doubt that’s going to change enough to have a material effect.

need to go back and rewatch the maisteer videos!

I think just by looking at that Valvetronic exhaust, that it is not unequal length at all, it looks symmetrical.

We have discussed that the bank with the 90° firing interval needs a roughly 20-33% longer length before the crossover (x-pipe) section, does not look that way in the video. So they are still missing that part I guess?

And definitely as you mentioned stepped headers. Totally missing here. And Secret definitely has them. Because Secret surely learned from the Japanese guys (for example Brilliant exhaust) and the Japanese guys always made their headers stepped haha..

I was about to purchase the Secret Weapon system for my 2013 R8 V10, but I've stopped getting any responses from the Secret Weapon team regarding compatibility on my model....
I saw that they only have 1 system sold and it's for a Gen 2 R8, so I don't want to risk it until I see a Gen 1 with the system installed since $18,000 is a lot of money for me.
In the meantime I'm enjoying my QuickSilver.

I would love to go with secret weapon, question is, are they going to get cheaper or more expensive with time.

A local fabricator who is an F1 exhaust fabricator working exclusively with titanium and inconel has offered to make me up a custom set but given how long secret weapon spent developing theirs, I just can’t see him happening on the right result just through experience.

Yeah, I'm super interested too but also have a Gen 1 and so far, I haven't seen them test fit their exhaust system into a Gen 1, so dumping $18k without guaranteed fitment(plug n play) is not smart.
Also, I live in the best state for mods(nazi Cali) 🤪, so the other factor stopping me is running no cats means I'm riding dirty and have to deal with bi-annual smog checks. The price to pay just to sound like a mid-2000's F1 car! 😅

I'm tempted to buy one and modify it here in the UK to get the valve closed exhaust gases to divert through a highly restrictive HJS racing cat. Should make it mega quiet but also pass emissions either at the roadside or annual emissions check thatg we need here without affecting the valve open sound.

Only issues are a) space, b) if running open, the cats won't be warm enough when they need to be!
