This should be fun...I truly feel for the people with these builds but stories like these are what stopped me from TT this car and why I keep most of my cars light bolt-ons and nothing more. I've been there, done that, with pushing a mod build on previous platforms back in the day. As I've gotten older I opted for more cars rather than money pit a platform. I picked between big build my GT-R or keep it basic FBO E85 and buy an R8. Bought the R8. Thought about boosting it with twin snails but figured I'll just buy a Plaid. Slots between a Stage 1 and Stage 2 build in straight line and put my R8 to weekend toy now instead of weekday daily warrior. I now appreciate the car more and enjoy the balance of an NA exotic. Everything going boosted from factory so why ruin a future icon. Anyways that's my opinion.

Whether Sheepy is truly at fault or not the truth of the matter is practices like this do happen at shops. Bad seeds (bad shops) ruin it for everyone else.

I do now know if I'll ever modify a car in this way again... my heart goes out to others who have been burnt by "builders" before.

Are any shops in this industry truly trustworthy? I would love to hear what others have to say about other performance shops who do something similar. Gintani, 1016, VF, UGR, AMS, etc..

Can anyone speak to the reliability of their kit over long term? I have seen their insane, world-record setting builds. Wondering if their entry-level builds for daily driving are any good.
 
Swapping an intake manifold for a blower with minimal other mods to get it done is a no brainer. If I ever go FI on my R8 it will be a VF blower. Simple and easy, I am done with the days of ridiculous mods.
A supercharger install will end in regret, compared to a simple alpha 9 or 10 turbo kit, it is just a waste hence why they sell for so cheap when owners take them off, they are trash. they feel slow and are slow

also the alpha 9-10 kits keep the same fuel lines in the engine bay so theirs no fire risk by your installer leaving an AN line loose ect ect.

Slower than a good twin turbo kit, absolutely. I have had several 1000 rwhp cars and I don't care to do that in any way with the R8, I also don't want to distort the naturally aspirated V10 exhaust note, which is the primary reason I bought the car in the first place. If I want a twin turbo car there are quite a few excellent options right from the factory I could simply tune with a few bolt ons and make great power as well. The blower has its place. As far as selling for cheap as a take off, of course they do. A blower is a 5k dollar proposition on any other car. The 30k price tag from VF carries an R8 tax and an R&D cost with a low volume payback. I would not expect to get back more than the actual value of the parts. Also, I would buy a self contained single piece blower on the used market, I wouldn't touch a "turbo kit" with a 10 foot pole. Of course in reality I wouldn't buy anything used though, lol.
 
I just finished my build the other night at Doug hub Motorsports. Very great experience and service. Communication was top notch and if I wanted to use certain parts on my car I was not branded to just one brand. View attachment 278822

But, having seen the V10 TT Stage 1+, with over 14k miles on the turbo setup, I have seen the quality of these turbo packages and the durability of the R8 platform overall. The builder's quality of the parts, good communication, and proper attention to detail during installation are all key elements.



These V10 TT setups are quite a bit more engaging to drive versus stock. It was an event; with all the beautiful concoction of sounds and power. Windows...always down. 😊

Did you have DS1 or Motec for tune/ecu

a lot of things can go wrong over 1000whp. might as well take all the precaution you can to protect your investment.
