So, is there anything special I should and/or shouldn't do? I remember hearing about keeping it under some many RPM for some many miles, but I don't recall what exactly they were. I also remember reading about monitoring the oil level.

Any info is much appreciated, as it will be very tempting to drive it hard ;)

the owners manual says:

fist 1,000 km no full throttle and no >6k rpm
1k - 2k km no full throttle
2k to 2,500 km can increase engine speed gradually and briefly to 8,250rpm

Don't kill it.... just drive it... you may find it will have some 50 to 70 miles on it when you do get it.... why I don't recall but just drive it. Keep the rpm fluctuating and wait a few thousand miles before launching it.
I believe they do like to be driven!

Correct. Just make sure oil is over 100 degrees and water temp is up. Vary throttle and revs. BUT, don't baby the thing. The rings on a piston only have a short period of time to seat well. Most of this is done on the Dyno and Test track in Neckarsulm. So, make sure it's warm and give it some stick!!

I've had NO smoke and NO oil consumption. DON'T BABY IT!

bz888, did you stick to the limitations set out in the owner's manual or did you just let her fly once the fluids were boiling?

Nope, I didn't. But using a bit of common sense & experience I used my method below. BUT, each to they're own.

This procedure must be done UP a mountain road. The engine MUST feel load. DO NOT do this on flat or downhill roads.

Warm Up (Oil must be min 90 Degrees, Water Temp must be Warm)

Run 1 - 3rd Gear, Med Throttle upto 4500rpm back to 2500rpm with Full Stabs
Continue this all the way up the hill then Cool Down.
Run 2 - 3rd Gear, Med Throttle upto 5500rpm back to 2500rpm with Full Stabs
Continue this all the way up the hill then Cool Down.
Run 3 - 2rd Gear, Med Throttle upto 6500rpm back to 2500rpm with Full Stabs
Continue this all the way up the hill then Cool Down.
Run 4 - 2rd Gear, Med Throttle upto 7500rpm back to 2500rpm with Full Stabs
Continue this all the way up the hill then Cool Down.
Run 5 - 2rd Gear, Med Throttle upto 8000rpm back to 2500rpm with Full Stabs

Idle down for a minute after every run.

This procedure must be done immediately after delivery to be effective. Once complete keep varying revs and throttle openings for at least 2000km. Also, don't forget to bed the brakes in.
