My V8 R8, with Carbon Fiber trimmed engine compartment has developed the habit of emitting a rubbing/squeaking noise, from behind the seats, after the car has warmed up and has been run. I get the feeling that it has something to do with the CF panels rubbing, but I don't know where to start diagnosing the problem. Has anyone had this problem and what is the solution?

Sounds like a dealer problem to me. Audi generally add a small cloth strip on the edge of any panel that touches another (see the edge of the radio surround where it touches the monoposto). I also saw an Audi bulletin for the CF sideblades which added some foam/felt rubbing pads. Get the dealer to sort and give you a V10 or RS6 for playtime.

I had a rubbing noise where the engine cover touched the carbon fiber on passenger side. You could see a worn area on the CF. The dealer put in a pad and the noise disappeared.

If you're a very young couple, (teens), the squeaking from the rear of ANY car might be from something else entirely!

Hmm I've also recently starting hearing a squeak from what seems to be the engine bay / somewhere behind the seats. Going over any small bumps makes it squeak in time with the bumps :p Could you say approximately where in the engine bay the rubbing was happening?

I had a squeak which sounded like it was coming from the foam in the bulkhead behind the seats. It was v irritating when going over a bumpy surface, but I knew I was getting shot of the car. I now have a squeak in the new car around the cd player - can't win!

That sounds a bit more like mine actually :p at least its pretty quiet :)
What IS quite annoying though is that my windows (driver side especially) have developed a 'squeak' when going up/down, which I think was discussed in another thread, I'm going to get them to look at it soon.

I went to the dealer today. Tech said the noise was coming from clips that hold the high m ount brake light in place. Car will be serviced next Monday.........we will see.

Finally today the squeak was cured. The high mounted rear brake light was the problem. A new unit was installed and VOILA!!!!! I have a sqeak free car.

Must be a relief :p that squeak makes me feel like the car is 'hurt', even though its barely audible!

My car is going in on Saturday for installation of carbon fiber mirrors and inspection of the squeak. I've made a list of all the possible issues that you guys have had that led to similar squeaks so we'll see if mine is the same as yours :p

Squeaking noises are difficult because they travel along metal and are invisible. But if you have such a noise coming from behind the seats, the high mount brake light is a possibility. There is a bulletin on this. My car is now "whole" again and as a neurotic R8 owner and perfectionist, I hope it is a long time before this or something like it happens again.

Do you have a Bentley manual, that comes with Bulletins I believe?

Good to hear that you found the squeak.

I had a similar squeak/rattle when my car was new - ended up being one of the fuel lines. There was a clip that was either defective or installed incorrectly that let the line move just a tad. Once the car was warm the thing would drive you nuts.

Sounded like it was coming from just over my left shoulder, back by the speaker.

So if anyone else experiences a squeak in that area, give that and the brake light harness a check.

I am not aware of any online source for bulletins. Here in the USA, Audi of North America gives very special attention to R8s. Each dealer has an R8 specialist and I believe that person makes sure each owner gets a call when a bulletin is created.

Hmm the location of the squeak sounds quite similar to what you described Kfab. I've put together 4 possibilities including the 2 that both of you had and some others I found in older posts about carbon panels rubbing against each other. It doesn't sound as if it's coming from the bay itself.. more just 'somewhere behind my seat' like the problems both of you had. Well hopefully they'll locate whatever is causing it.

I've still got a squeak from the suspension (I think) somewhere on the near side (passenger side). Only happens after a good run out when everything is warmed up. I'm convinced it's brake disk rubbing but who knows!

Can I get it to happen when the dealer tech guy sits in the car? Can I f**k!!!!

I'm just going to keep the revs and speed high so I can't hear it ;)

That is EXACTLY what I experienced. Check it out.
